Job summary

RAVE Aerospace Senior Certification Engineer to lead regulatory compliance for airborne equipment and systems across transport category aircraft. You will ensure all certification deliverables meet airworthiness requirements and coordinate with FAA/EASA and customers.

You will work with product teams, test labs and suppliers to plan tests, prepare safety and system assessments, and manage qualification activities. The role requires extensive FAA/EASA knowledge and regulatory interfacing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 6-10 years in a similar role.
  • Experience with designing, manufacturing and certifying aircraft components.
  • Experience interfacing with FAA or EASA in certification environments.
  • AS9100 quality system knowledge.
  • In-depth knowledge of FAA 14 CFRs and EASA CS Part 21/25.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Familiar with EMI testing and environmental test procedures.
  • Knowledge of STC, RFC, PMA and Minor Change processes.
  • Ability to interact with FAA and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and document test levels for environmental and electrical testing of new LRU designs and improvements.
  • Develop, review and release Certification documents ensuring compliance with airworthiness requirements.
  • Include safety assessments such as product FHA and system SAF assessments.
  • Coordinate with integrators, customers and labs for qualification test readiness.
  • Perform FRACA root cause analyses and release corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with QA and management for conformity inspections.
  • Represent the company with FAA and customers.
  • Advise management on airworthiness issues regarding design and manufacturing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Summary

The Senior Certification Engineer performs regulatory compliance activities required for the development and installation of airborne equipment and systems onto transport category aircraft. TheSenior CertificationEngineer has principal responsibility for ensuring all aspects of product and system-level certification are compliant with applicable and appropriate airworthiness requirements including the presentation of complete substantiation data deliverables.

Core Responsibilities
  • Work with product development team, systems engineering, aircraft system integrators and customers to identify and document appropriate test levels required for environmental, electrical and flammability testing of new LRU designs and product improvements
  • Develop, review, approve and release Certification documents to specify requirements that establish compliance with the applicable airworthiness requirements including, but not limited to:
  • Flammability assessments including Test Plans, Analysis and Test Reports
  • Qualification Test Plans, Procedures and Test Reports
  • Comparative analysis (Statements of Similarity) and Fungus Resistance
  • Safety Assessments such as for product Functional Hazard Assessments and system-level System Safety Assessments
  • Work with aircraft system integrators and customers to achieve appropriate regulatory approval of complete Certification data package for each newly developed or improved product
  • Work with design engineers, technicians, external suppliers and third-party test facilities to specify equipment and accessories necessary for test execution
  • Coordinate with Project Management, Certification Engineers, Qualification Engineers and test labs to quote and schedule formal qualification testing for each development project
  • Perform the necessary research including root cause analysis to implement and release a Failure Reporting and Corrective Action (FRACA) report which documents test failure conditions and recovery plan
  • Coordinate with Qualification engineers, test facilities, aircraft system integrators and regulatory authorities during formal qualification test readiness, particularly during test article and test set up conformity inspections
  • Work with Quality and Program Management to assemble required documentation for conformity inspections
  • Coordinate regulatory approval of IFE system installation design data and components with Program Managers and Project Engineers
  • Coordinate with Product Line and Certification teams to organize regularly-scheduled status meeting presentations
  • Represent the company and interface directly with the FAA and customers
  • Advise management on air worthiness related issues regarding the design and manufacturing of our product
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’sDegree in Engineeringor equivalent experience in a related field
  • 6-10 years of experience working in a similar role
  • Experience with designing,manufacturingand certifyingaircraftcomponents and systems
  • Experience working inproduct or system-levelcertificationenvironment, interfacing with FAA or EASA
  • Experience working in anAS9100 quality environment
  • In-depth knowledge ofindustry-standard RTCA and airframe manufacturer qualification requirements
  • Strong familiarization with FAA Part21, 23 &25 and EASA CS Part21 &25certificationrequirements related to airborne IFE equipment
  • In-depth working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • In-depth knowledge of Electrical/EMI test procedures, potentialchallengesand mitigation techniques
  • Familiarwith:
  • Temperature and pressure chambers
  • Vibration and Acceleration test equipment
  • EMI test set up and wiring
  • Feedback devices such as accelerometers and thermocouples
  • In-depthknowledge of:
  • Airframe manufacturerrequirements for cabin interiors
  • FAA 14 CFRs and EASA requirements, including flammability
  • HIC
  • The STC, RFC,PMAand Minor Change approvalprocesses
  • AS9100 quality system requirements

The starting pay range for this position is $119,000 - $126,500 per year however, base pay offered may vary depending on the level of the position, skills, experience, job-related knowledge, and location.
