Job summary

The City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department is seeking a Fitness Instructor for the Senior Center. You will lead low-impact fitness, balance, and mobility activities for adults 50+, promoting health and wellness through engaging programs.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, relevant fitness certification, and strong customer service skills. Certification in SilverSneakers or willingness to obtain it within 6 months is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and 18+ years of age.
• Experience in recreation, fitness, wellness, senior services, or related field desirable.
• Certification in personal/group fitness highly desired; willingness to obtain required certification; SilverSneakers within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and lead safe, engaging fitness, movement, and wellness classes for adults 50+, including low-impact, strength, balance, flexibility, and mobility activities.
• Provide instruction appropriate to participants’ abilities and promote active, healthy lifestyles.
• Conduct walkthroughs of outdoor fitness equipment to ensure safe usage and proper form.
• Assist with attendance, program registration, class schedules, and evaluation of programs.
• Deliver excellent customer service and build relationships with seniors, instructors, staff, and partners.
• Promote programs and explore new fitness and wellness opportunities based on participant needs.
• Maintain a safe, welcoming class environment and report safety concerns to supervisors.
• Attend meetings and trainings and support other Senior Center activities.
