Position Summary

Baratz & Associates is seeking an experienced Senior Client Accounting Services (CAS) Specialist to join our growing CAS team.

This role is ideal for an accounting professional with 5-10 years of experience who thrives in a client-facing environment and enjoys managing the full accounting cycle for multiple clients. Beyond traditional bookkeeping and month-end close responsibilities, this position serves as a trusted advisor, helping clients strengthen their accounting processes, improve financial reporting, and leverage technology to operate more efficiently.

The Senior CAS Specialist will lead complex accounting engagements, review work prepared by junior team members, communicate directly with clients, and provide financial insights that support sound business decision-making.

Experience with nonprofit organizations and nonprofit accounting is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Client Accounting & Financial Management

• Manage the full accounting cycle for a portfolio of business and nonprofit clients.
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes for clients of varying size and complexity.
• Review and maintain general ledger accuracy.
• Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations and maintain review-ready workpapers.
• Manage fixed assets, prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, and other complex balance sheet accounts.
• Reconcile accounting records to tax returns, audits, and other compliance requirements.
• Prepare and review sales tax filings and assist with year-end reporting requirements.

Client Advisory & Relationship Management

• Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients.
• Analyze financial results and identify trends, variances, and operational concerns.
• Provide recommendations that improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and internal controls.
• Assist clients with budgeting, cash flow monitoring, and financial management initiatives.
• Present financial information in a clear and practical manner to business owners and organizational leadership.

Team Leadership & Development

• Provide guidance and mentorship to Staff and Senior Accountants.
• Review work for quality, accuracy, and completeness.
• Assist with training and onboarding team members.
• Promote department best practices, consistency, and process improvement.

Technology & Process Improvement

• Utilize and support accounting platforms including QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Sage Intacct, and other cloud-based solutions.
• Lead accounting cleanups and complex reconciliations.
• Assist clients with accounting software implementations, migrations, and workflow enhancements.
• Identify opportunities to automate processes and improve efficiency using technology solutions.
• Maintain current knowledge of accounting technology and industry best practices.

Qualifications

• 5-10 years of accounting experience.
• Public accounting, CAS, outsourced accounting, or CPA firm experience strongly preferred.

• Advanced reconciliation, month-end close, and financial reporting skills.Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Microsoft Excel, and cloud-based accounting platforms.
• Experience with Sage Intacct, Bill.com, Fyle, or similar accounting technology solutions is a plus.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
• Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred, including familiarity with restricted funds, grant tracking, donor reporting, and nonprofit financial statements.
