Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking a Surgical Technician for the Jacobs Medical Center OR to support complex surgeries and equipment management. The role involves coordinating with surgeons, nurses, and staff in a fast-paced academic medical environment.

Jacobs Medical Center at UC San Diego Health features 364 beds and 24 operating rooms, with advanced brain and spine surgery capabilities. This position offers a 12-hour shift schedule and a comprehensive benefits package from day one of employment.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technician training program.
• BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within 6 months of hire date.
• Three (3) years of Surgical Tech experience in an Acute/Perioperative Services/Hospital setting.
• Demonstrated knowledge of maintaining a therapeutic environment for patients undergoing surgical procedures.
• Demonstrated expertise in one complex surgical specialty or multiple surgical specialties.
• Demonstrated skills in precepting, time management and organization of supplies and equipment.
• Expert knowledge of a wide variety of surgical instrumentation used in various surgical procedures.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills in customer service, problem-solving, and taking initiative.

Responsibilities

• Under general direction of surgical nurse, performs fairly complex surgical technician duties utilizing specialized knowledge acquired through formal training.
• Assigned surgical technician support to several specialty surgical areas within UC San Diego Health.
• Verification of specialty equipment and inventory.
• Contact surgeons concerning equipment, and contact supply companies/vendors about malfunctioning or broken equipment.
• Providing continuing education in-service to staff.
