Job description

Job Summary

Join the Central States offices as a transportation designer/technician with experience in KDOT, MoDOT, KTA, and/or local municipal transportation and roadway design. Primary focus on local and statewide highway transportation projects while supporting other disciplines across the firm.

Responsibilities

• Prepare drawings with CADD and assist in plan preparation, gathering information, processing survey data, and creating exhibits for meetings.
• Verify accuracy of drawings, check detail and quantity calculations, and ensure compatibility across disciplines.
• Assist in preparing engineering studies and evaluations from concept to design stage.
• Attend project and pre-construction meetings and provide input to ensure proper policies, procedures, and specifications are followed.
• Resolve technical design problems, including field investigations or inspections, detailed design work, and data.
• Maintain complex project plans, develop documentation, prepare project management reports, and monitor progress toward goals.
• Recommend process improvements for project delivery at the office level.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology or related field and 6 years of relevant experience, or
• Associate of Science in Drafting or Technical School and 8 years of relevant experience, or
• 10 years of relevant experience.

Desired Skills

• Ability to interpret design sketches and produce detailed drawings with some supervision.
• Familiarity with transportation terminology.
• Clear communication of ideas and questions with design team.
• Proficiency or quick learning of Bentley Microstation software (OpenRoads and Inroads).
• Openness to applying skills to new processes.

Preferred

• 2 years’ experience with transportation/roadway projects.
• Good time management and communication skills.
