Job summary

Geosyntec Consultants has an exciting opportunity for a Senior CAD Drafting Technician (Civil 3D) with flexibility to sit in one of our South Atlantic Region offices. These include Charlotte, Raleigh, Wilmington, Asheville, Greenville, Mount Pleasant, Knoxville, Chattanooga, and Johnson City.

The role supports environmental, civil, and geotechnical projects by creating layouts, grading plans and details, from concept through construction.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in drafting or equivalent with CAD drafting experience.
• Autodesk AutoCAD Certified Professional or equivalent (preferred).
• Experience with grading plans, cross-sections, alignments and earthwork volumes.
• Experience with land surveying/mapping data and files.
• Experience with stormwater and civil design projects.

Responsibilities

• Draft, edit, and finalize design plans using Geosyntec drafting standards.
• Visualize civil/geotechnical concepts and translate them into CAD drawings.
• Analyze input material to determine best approach for drawing sets.
• Manage production and modification of drawing sets.
• Transfer information from engineering drawings to CAD drawings with proper standards.
• Mentor CAD Drafting Technicians and support CAD standards improvements.
• Collaborate with other CADD practitioners to ensure quality of designs.

The position will support project needs by computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) for a variety of environmental, civil and geotechnical engineering design projects. We are seeking a motivated individual who can develop layouts, grading plans and details for civil engineering projects, including landfills, industrial sites and utilities. Projects also include mechanical drawing systems and opportunities to contribute from the conceptual design stage through construction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Draft, edit, and finalize design plans and details using appropriate and efficient methods and adhering to Geosyntec drafting standards;
• Understand and visualize overall civil/geotechnical engineering concepts, such as grading, and translating abstract concepts to design drawings;
• Analyze sketches, notes and other input material to determine best approach to complete a drawing set;
• Manage the production of drawing sets from creation, markup and modification based on overall design;
• Transfer information from an engineering drawing to a final CAD drawing using appropriate symbols and drafting standards;
• Copy detailed plans and drawings and performing non-routine complex drafting assignments;
• Operate plotter, printer, scanner, and other input/output devices;
• Proofread CAD drawings for accuracy, format, and grammar;
• Assist with mentoring and overseeing CAD Drafting Technicians,
• Participate in the CAD Action Group, by supporting, networking, and collaborating to improve CAD standards and efficiencies across the company; and
• Work collaboratively with other Geosyntec CADD practitioners to prepare design drawings and details and reviewing completed work products to ensure quality.
• Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in drafting and a minimum of 1 year (3+ years preferred) of experience performing CAD drafting work in a professional engineering setting, or five (5) years of equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities. (required)
• Successful Autodesk AutoCAD Certified Professional examination within the last 3 years. (preferred)
• Experience developing and working with grading plans, cross-sections, alignments, profiles, three-dimensional surfaces, and earthwork volumes for landfills and other large civil design projects. (required)
• Experience using/incorporating land or aerial surveying/mapping data and files. (required)
• Experience with stormwater management design. (preferred)
• Experience with ArcGIS and MicroStation. (preferred)
• Extensive experience using the latest releases of Autodesk AutoCAD. (required)
• Extensive knowledge of AutoCAD includes but is not limited to Annotation Styles, Multileaders, MTEXT, Dimensions, Sheet Sets, Paper Space / Model Space, XREFs, Layers, Dynamic Blocks, and Tool Palettes. (required)
• Basic understanding of the latest releases of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, Skype, Adobe PDF, and Windows File Explorer. (required)
• Understanding of Civil 3D Annotation styles and annotation tools, basic understanding of key objects such as Surfaces, Alignments, Profiles, Profile Views, Pipe Networks and basic operations of performing Surface Analyses and Volume Calculations. (preferred)
• Strong reasoning, mathematical, and geometrical skills Ability to perform basic math skills including applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. (required)
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret red line drawings from Engineers, CAD Managers, or others on the project team.
• Strong communication skills to include the ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions, and the ability to interact effectively to maintain a team environment. (required)
• Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
