Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior CAD Application Engineer to build tools and processes that leverage NX and TC data for development, analysis, and control systems. You will combine strong mechanical design with software development in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

You will work with a matrix CAD team alongside top scientists and engineers, implementing NXOpen APIs, Python automation, and cross-functional workflows to deliver robust CAD tooling and standards compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or STEM field.
• 10+ years of industry experience.
• Experience with engineering release workflows and PLM tools.
• 5+ years as a design engineer of mechanical, electro-mechanical or thermal-mechanical systems.
• Proven ability to extract key data using software automations for NX and TC.
• Experience with GD&T per ASME Y14.100 and ASME Y14.5.
• Ten plus years of experience in application of Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
• Skilled in Python, NXOpen API, Linux, Git, and computational geometry.

Responsibilities

• Deliver complete mechanical designs with tolerance stacks and assembly procedures.
• Develop CAD workflows that convert NX geometry into usable formats for analysis tools.
• Create software automation tools to interact with NX data from Python.
• Develop tooling to integrate NX model parameters and geometry in existing software.
• Utilize NXOpen API for coordinate transformations and single source of truth access.
• Ensure CAD designs meet industry and internal CAD standards.
• Operate within a matrix CAD team reporting to a CAD Team Leader/Manager.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers.

Join the power movement as a Senior CAD Application Engineer

CFS is hiring a Senior CAD Application Engineer to develop tools and processes to leverage the CAD NX and TC data to drive development, feed analysis tools and control systems. In this role the Senior CAD Application Engineer must have strong mechanical design experience as well as software development experience.

What you'll do:

• Deliver complete mechanical designs including, tolerance stacks, coordinate CTE/Structural analysis, and assembly procedures
• Develop CAD design and software workflows that convert parametric models from NX CAD geometry into formats that can be used by engineering teams and control systems within analysis algorithms
• Develop software automation tools that enable users to interact with NX data from Python
• Develop software tooling for integrating NX model parameters, coordinate systems, and geometry in existing scientific software tooling
• Utilize software tools and the NXOpen API to enable coordinate transformations and quick access to a single source of truth
• Have experience with ASME Y14.100 and ASME Y14.5 standards
• Develop software tooling to ensure that CAD designs and documentation comply with industry and internal CAD standards
• Be part of a matrix organization as a member of the CAD Team reporting to a CAD Team Leader/Manager
• Work within a multi-disciplinary and proven team of top scientists and engineers to support our functional teams

What we’re looking for:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or STEM related field
• 10 plus years of industry experience
• Experienced with engineering release work flows and PLM tools
• Five years of experience as a design engineer of mechanical, electro-mechanical or thermal-mechanical systems
• Proven ability to extract key data using software automations for NX and TC
• Experienced with GD&T per ASME Y14.100 and ASME Y14.5
• Ten plus years of experience in application of Siemens NX and Teamcenter
• Self motivated and ability to apply problem solving methods
• Experienced with programing Python, NXOpen API, Linux, Git and Computational Geometry

Bonus points for:

• Master's degree in engineering or STEM related field
• Rigid body kinematics analysis, thermal analysis and finite element analysis
• Commercialization of new technology

Must-have Requirements:

• Perform activities such as typing and sitting, etc. for extended periods of time
• Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics
• Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call

$110,000 - $185,000 a year

Salary range for this full-time position + equity + benefits. The actual salary will depend on level, location, qualifications, and experience. The range displayed on each job posting reflects new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Benefits include
