Job summary

Durlston Partners in New York is seeking a senior C++ engineer for the core trading technology team. This hands-on role involves building performance-sensitive systems used in live trading with significant ownership and collaboration with quantitative researchers, traders, and engineers.

You will design high‑performance C++ systems, improve latency, throughput, reliability, and scalability, and profile workloads from software to hardware to ensure production readiness.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional C++ development experience.
• Background in performance-critical or low-latency systems.
• Strong understanding of computer architecture, OS, networking, and concurrency.
• Experience building multithreaded and/or distributed production systems.
• Excellent debugging, profiling, and performance optimization skills.

I'm running a confidential search for an established quantitative trading firm looking to add a senior C++ engineer to a core trading technology team.

This is a hands-on engineering role working on performance-sensitive systems used directly in live trading. You'll have significant ownership and work closely with both technical and investment stakeholders.

What you'd be doing:

• Design and build high-performance C++ systems supporting live electronic trading
• Improve latency, throughput, reliability, and scalability across critical components of the trading stack
• Work closely with quantitative researchers, traders, and engineers to take new functionality from research through production
• Profile and optimize systems at both the software and hardware level
• Develop robust infrastructure for real-time, high-throughput workloads
• Contribute to architecture, testing, production reliability, and engineering standards across the platform

What we're looking for:

• 5+ years of professional C++ development experience
• Strong background in performance-critical or low-latency systems
• Deep understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, networking, and concurrency
• Experience building multithreaded and/or distributed production systems
• Strong debugging, profiling, and performance optimization skills
• Experience within electronic trading, financial markets, or another latency-sensitive environment is helpful but not essential
