Job summary

Curtiss-Wright's Sensors & Controls Division in Tempe, AZ is seeking a Senior Buyer to lead procurement of high-value, technical materials and services. You will manage supplier relationships, drive cost reduction, and ensure inventory supports production schedules.

Collaborate across manufacturing, engineering, planning and quality; negotiate favorable terms, expedite orders, monitor supplier performance, and mentor junior buyers to sustain excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive purchasing or supply chain experience in manufacturing or technical environment.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
  • Strong knowledge of engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead procurement for high-value, technical commodities and services.
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies and vendor selection processes.
  • Coordinate purchasing with manufacturing, planning, and engineering to meet production needs.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions with suppliers to secure favorable agreements.
  • Track and expedite complex purchase orders; monitor delivery schedules.
  • Resolve supplier issues including claims, rejections, and changes.
  • Analyze supplier performance and conduct site visits for capability and compliance.
  • Collaborate with Accounts Payable to resolve invoicing discrepancies.
  • Perform make-versus-buy analysis and evaluate sourcing options.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior buyers.

Senior Buyer

Our Sensors Division in Tempe, AZ is seeking a Senior Buyer to join our dynamic team! The Senior Buyer will take a lead role in procurement activities for complex and technical materials and services. This individual will be responsible for managing supplier relationships, driving cost reduction strategies, and ensuring optimal inventory levels to support production schedules. This position works cross-functionally with manufacturing, engineering, planning, and quality teams to ensure timely and cost-effective purchasing decisions in alignment with business goals.

Location: Tempe, AZ. Salary Range: $67,400 - 90,000 per year plus bonus. Please note that the salary range information provided is a general guideline only, reflecting a position based in Arizona. Criteria such as the candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience, the scope of the specific position, as well as market and business considerations will be evaluated when extending an offer.

Your Challenge
  • Lead procurement efforts for high-value, technical, or strategic commodities and services.
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies, vendor selection processes, and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Coordinate purchasing activities with manufacturing, planning, and engineering departments to meet production needs.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions with suppliers to secure favorable agreements that align with company objectives.
  • Track and expedite complex purchase orders; update shipping and delivery schedules proactively.
  • Resolve supplier-related issues including claims, rejections, over/under shipments, engineering changes, and cancellations.
  • Analyze supplier performance metrics and conduct site visits to evaluate production capabilities and compliance.
  • Collaborate with Accounts Payable to address and resolve invoicing discrepancies.
  • Monitor market trends, perform make-versus-buy analysis, and evaluate alternative sourcing opportunities.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior buyers or procurement staff as needed.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive purchasing or supply chain experience in a manufacturing or technical environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
  • Strong knowledge of engineering drawings, technical specifications, and manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform price/cost analysis and contract negotiations.
  • PMAC, ISM, or APICS certification preferred (e.g., CPM, CPSM, CPIM).
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills
