Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 6+ years of experience in Supply Chain or Purchasing in construction/industrial sector preferred.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills are necessary.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access) and material management software.

The Senior Buyer is responsible for purchasing daily material for jobs; assisting Project Managers/Estimators on quoting project bids; selecting vendors; and negotiating.

Experience in the construction or industrial sectors, with experience in AST (Aboveground Storage Tank) and Energy is highly preferred.

Essential Functions
  • Represent the Company at all times with high moral standards while adhering to the Company’s “Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.”
  • Actively support the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values.”
  • Provide subject matter expertise to monitor and track commodity pricing levels specific to budgeted spend and understand the industry of suppliers and materials identified for procurement.
  • Monitor, communicate, and respond to changing market conditions and price trends to maximize leverage and minimize risk.
  • Monitor new trends in purchasing; recommend new ideas and trends to management.
  • Foster supplier relationships, beginning with sourcing, developing, and vetting suppliers and ending with monitoring of supplier performance.
  • Assist in achieving financial targets and cost-reduction initiatives, including savings targets.
  • Lead and support proposal efforts by soliciting qualified bids from material suppliers.
  • Process project Bills of Material, source, negotiate prices, place purchase orders, expedite delivery, and maintain good supplier relations, all while meeting production schedule requirements.
  • Process submitted requisitions from the jobsites to supply the site with materials and tooling at a reasonable cost and by the date required.
  • Ensure use of framework agreements and preferred supplier agreements.
  • Interface between suppliers and various internal departments to resolve issues, invoice problems, material specification questions, variances, etc., as required.
  • Ensure purchase orders list complete material/service specifications, as listed on Bills of Material, Engineering drawings, AMLs, and other source documents.
  • Maximize saving in all aspects of purchasing.
  • Research invoices that were rejected by Accounts Payable and assist with getting them processed.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop best-in-class supply chain personnel to support project execution. Maintain a working environment in which subordinates are safe, motivated, well-directed, satisfied, and developed to realize their potential.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field, preferred.
  • 6+ years of experience in Supply Chain or Purchasing, preferably in the construction/industrial area.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills are necessary.
  • Strong computer knowledge, including MS Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, and material management software.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work well under pressure.
  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M) preferred.
  • Occasional overtime and willingness to travel as needed/required.
