Job description

Moore & Van Allen PLLC, a dynamic and fast-growing full-service law firm of more than 400 attorneys and professionals, is seeking an experienced Senior BI Developer to lead the design, development, and enhancement of enterprise business intelligence solutions that deliver meaningful financial and operational insights across the firm. In this role, you will partner with executive leadership, Finance, Accounting, Practice Management, Pricing, HR, and Marketing teams to develop scalable reporting solutions, automate reporting processes, and improve data-driven decision making.

This position combines strong technical expertise with financial acumen and consultative skills. The ideal candidate is passionate about transforming complex business requirements into intuitive dashboards, governed datasets, and actionable insights.

What You'll Do:
Business Intelligence Development
  • Develop SQL transformation logic and business rules that convert source data into governed, reportable datasets.
  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise Power BI dashboards, scorecards, and reporting solutions.
  • Build and maintain semantic models, datasets, and reusable reporting assets.
  • Develop complex DAX measures, calculated columns, KPIs, and business metrics.
  • Optimize Power BI performance through efficient data modeling and query tuning.
  • Automate reporting processes using Power Query and Power BI Dataflows.
Data Modeling & Governance
  • Design star-schema data models with conformed dimensions shared across firm reporting.
  • Design and implement row-level security and governance standards to ensure a single semantic model can serve audiences with materially different data visibility requirements.
  • Maintain change tracking and reporting governance controls.
  • Document reporting solutions, development standards, and data lineage from source systems through final reports.
  • Maintain a documented dictionary of firm metric definitions.
  • Execute data quality controls at the reporting layer and serve as the reconciliation point when reported figures are questioned against published financial results.
  • Partner with firm leadership, compensation director, and practice leadership to develop reporting across matter and client profitability, timekeeper productivity, billing and collections, budget and forecast performance, and compensation analytics.
Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Elicit requirements from partners and senior stakeholders and translate business needs into reporting solutions.
  • Scope deliverables into releasable increments and maintain a prioritized reporting roadmap.
  • Collaborate with BI/Data Engineering teams to integrate data from ERP, CRM, HRIS, and other enterprise systems.
  • Train end users and promote Power BI best practices across the firm.
What We're Looking For:
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or Reporting.
  • 5+ years of hands-on Power BI development experience.
  • Experience supporting or working closely with Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) teams.
  • Strong understanding of financial and operational reporting concepts.
  • Proven ability to work directly with senior business leaders and executive stakeholders.
Technical Expertise

  • SQL Server / T-SQL
  • SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
  • Power BI Service

  • Data profiling, source-system analysis, and data quality controls
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional services or law firm experience.
  • Knowledge of:
  • Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Profitability Reporting
  • Billing & Collections
  • Legal Matter Reporting
  • Timekeeper Productivity Metrics
  • Experience with:
