Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is seeking a Senior Consultant in Chicago to lead business change management initiatives within North America Retail Business Consulting. You will translate strategy into actionable change plans, engage stakeholders and guide adoption across merchandising and operations teams.

With 6–8+ years in change management, you will drive workshops, risk mitigation, and sustainability of new ways of working across large transformation programs for retail clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, organizational change, retail or related discipline preferred; advanced degree is a plus.
• Approximately 6-8+ years of relevant professional experience across management consulting, retail transformation, business change management or related roles.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience delivering change management within significant business transformation programs.
• Strong workshop facilitation, stakeholder management, written communication and presentation skills.
• Willingness to travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead defined business change management workstreams within complex retail transformation programs.
• Conduct stakeholder, organizational and change-impact assessments to identify implications for roles, responsibilities, processes, capabilities, behaviors and ways of working.
• Develop and execute practical change plans covering stakeholder engagement, communications, leadership alignment, capability building and training, business readiness, adoption and sustainment.
• Translate transformation designs into clear implications and actions for merchandising teams and other impacted stakeholders.
• Identify adoption barriers, organizational risks and resistance, and develop appropriate mitigation actions with client leaders and program teams.
• Define and track change readiness and adoption measures, using stakeholder feedback and business performance indicators to refine interventions.
• Facilitate workshops, working sessions and stakeholder interviews to understand impacts, build alignment and support implementation.
• Support pilots, rollout and post-implementation activities to embed new processes and ways of working.

About the Job

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is seeking an experienced Business Change Management professional to join our North America Retail Business Consulting division as a Senior Consultant.

The ideal candidate will combine strong hands-on change management experience with an understanding of retail merchandising and commercial operations. The role will support large-scale retail transformation programs, helping clients translate changes in strategy processes, operating models and enabling technology into sustainable changes in how merchandising teams work.

This is a business change management role rather than a technology-focused OCM role.

The successful candidate will assess organizational impacts, engage stakeholders, develop and execute change and adoption plans, support business readiness and capability building, and help embed new processes, roles and ways of working.

Success requires strong structured problem-solving, stakeholder management, facilitation and communication skills, together with the ability to independently lead defined change workstreams within complex transformation programs.

Key Responsibilities

Business Change & Transformation

• Lead defined business change management workstreams within complex retail transformation programs, aligned to overall program objectives and business outcomes.

Merchandising Domain

• Apply an understanding of retail merchandising to assess the practical implications of transformation across areas such as category management, assortment, pricing and promotions, planning, inventory management, allocation and replenishment.
• Work effectively with merchandising, planning, finance, store operations, supply chain, technology and other cross-functional stakeholders.
• Help ensure transformation solutions are practical for merchants and business users and are designed around business outcomes rather than solely around technology deployment.
• Bring relevant outside-in perspectives and leading practices from ret ail and consumer organizations.

Client Engagement & Business Development

• Build strong client relationships, primarily engaging with Director, Senior Manager and workstream-level stakeholders, with appropriate interaction with senior executives.
• Serve as a trusted advisor on business change, adoption and transformation topics within assigned workstreams.
• Communicate complex change issues clearly and pragmatically to both business and technology stakeholders.
• Support proposals and business development by contributing change approaches, workplans, insights and content.
• Contribute to the development of Retail Business Consulting propositions, methodologies, points of view and reusable assets.

Practice & Team Leadership

• Mentor junior team members and provide guidance on change-management approaches and deliverables.
• Contribute to developing TCS's business change management capability within Retail Business Consulting.
• Support recruiting, coaching and professional development activities as required.
• Champion high standards of consulting quality, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Operational Excellence

• Deliver assigned workstreams to a high standard of quality and client satisfaction.
• Maintain effective governance across change plans, milestones, dependencies, risks and issues.
• Collaborate closely with program leadership and other business, consulting and technology workstreams.
• Produce clear, structured and executive-quality deliverables and recommendations.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in business, organizational change, retail or a related discipline preferred; advanced degree is a plus.

• Demonstrated hands-on experience delivering change management within significant business transformation programs.
• Experience across key change disciplines including change-impact assessment, stakeholder engagement, change planning, communications, capability building and training, business readiness, adoption and sustainment.
• Strong understanding of how transformation affects business processes, operating models, roles, behaviors and ways of working.
• Meaningful experience working within retail or serving retail clients; experience with large, operationally complex retailers is strongly preferred.
• Understanding of merchandising processes such as category management, assortment, pricing and promotions, planning, inventory management, allocation or replenishment is strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to independently lead defined workstreams and deliver high-quality outputs within complex programs.
• Strong workshop facilitation, stakeholder management, written communication and presentation skills.
• Strong structured problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
• Ability to work effectively across business and technology teams while maintaining a strong focus on business outcomes and adoption.
• Prosci, ACMP or comparable change-management certification is desirable but not requi red.
• Grocery, mass retail or other large-scale retail experience is a plus.
• Willingness to travel as required.
