Job summary

The City of Greenacres is seeking a qualified building inspector to perform field inspections and plan reviews to ensure structural safety. You will interpret plans, answer questions from contractors and the public, and operate with significant independence in accordance with city, state, and federal codes.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED with technical construction training, Florida driver’s license, and relevant certified inspector credentials.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School Diploma/G.E.D. supplemented with technical training in construction practices.
• Associate degree in Construction Management or closely related field is highly desirable.
• Four (4) years’ experience as a building inspector, engineer, architect, superintendent, foreman, or mechanic in charge of construction.
• Must be certified as a Standard Building Inspector or Reviewer in one category by the State of Florida and maintain certification.
• Must have an additional certification or qualify per Florida Statutes 468.609 within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Reviews permit applications, plans, and documentation for compliance with Building and City codes and regulations.
• Inspects structural installations, equipment and components for conformance with laws and ordinances and codes.
• Ensures that the contractor has secured applicable permits prior to inspections.
• Interacts with the general public regarding inspection procedures and requirements.
• Prepares reports, inputs data entries of inspections, and maintains records of work performed.
• Performs supervisory and administrative duties as assigned by the Building Official.
