Job summary

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is seeking a Finance Budget Analyst to provide expert level financial analysis and strategic budgeting support in St. Paul.

You will analyze expenditures, monitor funds, and prepare reports to guide agency decisions while ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements. Telework eligible up to 50% and the role requires strong Excel skills, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate with multiple internal teams to optimize resource use

Qualifications

• Three years of government finance or accounting experience in at least three areas.
• Experience presenting financial information using a variety of methods.
• Ability to interpret laws, rules and regulations, and direct staff to implement appropriate accounting procedures.
• Organizational skills and the ability to identify and solve problems, handle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and apply innovative approaches.
• Skilled in interpersonal relationships to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-depth budget and financial analysis for MN Department of Agriculture (MDA) funds.
• Help agency leadership make informed financial decisions and coordinate fiscal year end closing.
• Review and monitor budgets, prepare and interpret related reports.
• Develop and maintain annual agency spending plans and assist biennial budget preparation.
• Reconcile agency revenue and expenditures and coordinate cross-functional collaboration.
