Job summary

City of Montgomery, AL seeks a Senior Budget Analyst to develop, analyze, implement, and monitor the City's operating and capital budgets. The role advises upper management on budgetary matters, financial management policies, and long-term fiscal planning.

Qualifications

• Education and at least 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience in budgeting, accounting, financial management, or fiscal analysis.
• Municipal budgeting experience is a plus.
• Qualifying education, training, and experience will be considered.

Job description

The fundamental reason this position exists is to provide professional work in developing, analyzing, implementing, and monitoring the City's operating and capital budgets. The position advises upper management on budgetary matters, financial management policies, and long-term fiscal planning. Work includes developing and analyzing financial data, preparing budget documents and reports, evaluating departmental budget submissions, monitoring expenditures, and providing expert guidance to City departments. Employees at this level exercise considerable judgment and discretion in applying professional budgeting principles. The Senior Budget Analyst supervises clerical or paraprofessional staff on a project basis. This classification reports directly to the Budget Officer.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in budgeting, accounting, financial management, or fiscal analysis. Municipal experience is a plus.
