Job summary

WSB seeks a Senior Bridge Design Engineer in Minnesota to join a growing transportation practice. You will perform structural calculations, modeling, and design, and manage multi-disciplinary projects from proposal through construction.

Candidates should have ABET bachelor’s in civil/structural engineering, 6+ years’ experience, MN PE or eligibility, and proficiency with Midas Civil, Bentley OpenBridge, MDX, MicroStation, and AutoCAD. Strong communication and teamwork required.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering is required.
• Progressive bridge/structural engineering experience with MN DOT is preferred.
• Professional Engineer license in Minnesota or ability to obtain within 6 months is required.
• Proficiency with structural analysis software (Midas Civil) and industry tools (Bentley OpenBridge, AASHTOWare, MDX).
• Strong communication and teamwork skills; detail-oriented and organized.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural calculations, modeling, analysis and design.
• Prepare contract documents including plans, specs and cost estimates.
• Lead multi-disciplinary projects from proposal through design and construction.
• Review shop drawings and respond to RFIs.
• Develop and review reports and studies for engineering solutions.
• Provide technical assistance to consultants, contractors, and officials.
• Deliver professional presentations and participate in client meetings.
• Quality review of calculations and documents; stay current with industry practices.

What You Will Do

• Perform structural calculations, modeling, analysis, and design
• Prepare contract documents including plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates
• Manage and lead multi-disciplinary projects from proposal stage, through design, and design services during construction
• Review shop drawings and respond to RFIs
• Develop, prepare and review reports and studies to identify and recommend engineering solutions
• Conducts engineering research and provides technical assistance to consulting engineer, contractors, public officials, municipalities, and others as needed
• Deliver professional presentations
• Participation in meetings with clients and project team members
• Conduct quality review of structural calculations and contract documents
• Stay up-to‑date with the state of practice, and integrate innovation and technology in design

What You Will Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, or structural engineering is required from an ABET accredited university
• Progressive experience specific to Bridge/Structural Engineering and working with MNDOT
• Professional Engineer’s licenses in Minnesota with 6+ years of experience. Or ability to obtain PE in MN within 6 months
• Proficiency in structural analysis programs such as Midas Civil and familiarity with industry software such as Bentley OpenBridge, AASHTOWare Bridge Rating, and MDX
• Proficiency in structural detailing in MicroStation and AutoCAD
• Strong communications skills, both verbal and written
• Enthusiastic, can-do attitude, and strong team work ethic
• Good organization skills with attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a project team and exercise independent initiative
• Ability to work 40 hours a week
• Work is primarily performed in an office environment with standard office equipment, occasional travel or field visits may be required to support
