Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior Bridge Construction Inspector in Waterbury, VT to oversee new, replacement, or rehabilitated bridges with project values up to $50 million. You will work under the Resident Engineer, coordinating inspections, documenting progress, and ensuring safety and quality on site.

The role requires strong communication, reading shop drawings, and the ability to mentor junior staff. A valid driver’s license and safety compliance history are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • 9 years applicable experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, design plans and specifications.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety policies.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with contractors and attend meetings.
  • Mentor or supervise other inspectors on behalf of the resident engineer or project manager.
  • Complete daily reports and measure and calculate unit price quantities.
  • Coordinate independent material sampling and testing.
  • Monitor maintenance of traffic.
  • Take and compile photographs for daily progress tracking.
  • Update red-line drawings using Bluebeam.
  • Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company funds and conduct.

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Bridge Construction Inspector to help oversee new, replacement, or rehabilitated structures with construction values ranging from $1-$50 million. This position can be based out of our Waterbury, VT location.

The inspector will oversee various work elements including excavation, backfilling, compaction, cast-in-place concrete from formwork to reinforcement, installation of precast elements, bridge seats, bearings and joints, bridge rail, drainage, and other incidental items. The inspector will report to the Resident Engineer, and may routinely, or periodically act as their representative, depending on experience.

Your Impact

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma
  • 9 years applicable experience
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, design plans and specifications.
  • Have a valid driver's license.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate of Science degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or related field.
  • ACI or NETTCP certifications, or ability to attain within 3-months of hiring.
  • Average proficiency with MS WORD Suite.
  • Hands-on experience with construction management software such as Site or Field Manager, APPIA, Procore, IPD or similar systems. Knowledge of Bluebeam.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills.
  • Any combination of college education, professional licenses, certifications and experience will be considered.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $76,100 - $110,900

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
