Job summary

US Department of Veterans Affairs in Indianapolis seeks a Supervisory Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist (BESS) to lead the Biomedical Engineering Department. The role provides clinical and administrative support focusing on facility-wide lifecycle management of medical equipment.

Ideal candidates will have extensive experience supervising VA staff, strong policy development skills, and thorough knowledge of NFPA, FDA, NRC, TJC and AAMI standards.

Qualifications

• Associates or higher degree in biomedical technology or biomedical engineering per qualification standards.
• Associates or higher degree in electronics/IT/engineering with 1 year of creditable experience.
• DOD BET training program completed.
• DOD training in repair/maintenance of electronic systems or IT with 1 year experience.
• HTM certificate program with internship or corresponding experience.
• HTM certificate program without internship plus 1 year experience.
• Holding/certification as CBET/CRES/CLES/CHTM is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the workflow of assigned staff to achieve program goals and objectives.
• Develop and oversee policies for medical equipment and clinical systems.
• Manage interpersonal relationships among staff, team leaders, and managers.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA, FDA, NRC, TJC, and AAMI standards for safe operation.
• Provide guidance on various medical equipment and clinical systems.
• Analyze data to improve quality, efficiency, performance and productivity.
