Job summary

Langan Engineering & Environmental Services in Syracuse, NY seeks a Senior Biologist or Scientist to perform wetland delineations, rare plant surveys, wildlife surveys, restoration monitoring, and data collection on active projects with cross-regional collaboration.

Responsibilities include assisting with regulatory permitting, preparing reports, conducting stormwater monitoring, and supporting field teams; candidates should have a biology-related degree and 2+ years of experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, wildlife, botany, ecology, environmental science or a closely related field.
  • 2+ years of biological work experience; field experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with NEPA, CEQR, and ESA regulations.
  • Experience with federal and state protected species.
  • GPS data collection in the field (ArcPad, Collector, Survey123 a plus).
  • Experience with local sensitive species is desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with analytical, multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.

Job Summary Langan is seeking a Senior Biologist or Scientist to join its collaborative team in Syracuse, NY. TThis individual will serve a key function in providing wetland delineations, rare plant surveys, wildlife surveys, restoration monitoring, collecting field data and samples; monitoring construction sites, and compiling data and preparing reports. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work cross-collaboratively across our North American regions as part of a rapidly growing team with a strong project pipeline in contaminated site assessment and remediation.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist with plant and wildlife surveys for habitat assessments, special-status species, and other project requirements
  • Assist with wetland delineations, jurisdictional determinations, and other aquatic resource surveys using current agency protocols, regionally specific methods, restoration monitoring for ongoing projects and other guidance
  • Provide biological monitoring and oversight for construction projects, restoration implementation, and restoration maintenance
  • Research regionally-sensitive natural resources, survey requirements, and reporting needs
  • Assist with development of environmental permitting packages using data collected in the field by Langan or subcontractors
  • Prepare reports documenting field investigations and analytical results
  • Perform stormwater monitoring and reporting
  • Perform other duties as requested
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, wildlife, botany, ecology, environmental science or a closely related field
  • 2+ years of biological work experience

  • Familiarity with environmental regulations including NEPA, CEQR, and ESA
  • Experience with federal and state protected species
  • Experience using GPS units in the field with use of ArcPad, Collector, Survey123 a plus
  • Experience with local sensitive species is highly desirable

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment
  • Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver's license in good standing

Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills. Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm's annual bonus and performance review program. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm.

Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors such as hours worked, related work experience and level.

Pay Range $76,000 - $110,000 USD
