Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field; 10+ years of relevant work experience.
• Strong programming skills in Python and Linux.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Experience with bioinformatics workflow frameworks (Nextflow, Luigi, Snakemake) and version control (Git); cloud (AWS) and containers (Docker).
• Experience with Computer System Validation and GxP regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Monitor bioinformatics pipelines and software systems for deviations and recommend fixes.
• Support the development and implementation of software quality standards and validation readiness.
• Collaborate with bioinformatics and software teams to design automated testing for continuous pipeline operation.
• Monitor and maintain scientific software platforms for reliability and performance.
• Troubleshoot, investigate, and resolve software/operational issues; annotate as needed for incidents.
• Support CV activities through drafting and maintaining qualification scripts and validation docs.

In this role, you will help ensure the reliability, quality, and compliance of critical bioinformatics pipelines that support Moderna’s scientific and operational objectives. Working at the intersection of bioinformatics, software engineering, validation, and operational support, you will monitor system performance, identify deviations from established standards, and drive continuous improvements across the software ecosystem. You will play a key role in maintaining continuous software operations, supporting validation activities, enhancing automation capabilities, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to strengthen the robustness of scientific software platforms. This position also offers exposure to advanced digital technologies and opportunities to work alongside teams leveraging automation, data-driven processes, and emerging Generative AI-enabled solutions to improve operational efficiency.

Here’s What You’ll Do

• Monitor bioinformatics pipelines and scientific software systems to identify deviations from established standards and recommend corrective actions.
• Support the development, refinement, and implementation of standards, methods, and procedures used to assess software quality and operational readiness.
• Collaborate closely with bioinformatics and software engineering teams to design, develop, and enhance automated testing capabilities that support continuous operation of bioinformatics pipelines.
• Monitor and maintain scientific software platforms to ensure reliable and uninterrupted performance.
• Troubleshoot, investigate, resolve, or appropriately annotate software and operational issues to support efficient incident management.
• Support computer system validation activities through the drafting, execution, and maintenance of qualification scripts, protocols, and associated validation documentation.
• Work independently and in partnership with development teams to identify software defects, resolve bugs, and implement system improvements.
• Provide on-call support to address urgent operational issues and minimize downtime.
• Develop, maintain, and continuously improve documentation related to software troubleshooting, issue investigation, issue resolution, and operational procedures.
• Improve and automate error reporting applications to increase visibility, efficiency, and system reliability.
• Continuously expand technical knowledge of scientific software platforms, bioinformatics technologies, and supporting infrastructure.
• Contribute to a culture of operational excellence, continuous improvement, compliance, and high-quality software delivery.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field and 10+ years of relevant work experience
• Strong programming skills, particularly in Python and Linux
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Experience using a bioinformatics workflow framework (e.g. NextFlow, Luigi, Snakemake, NextFlow preferred), version control systems (Git preferred), Cloud (AWS preferred) and containers (Docker preferred)
• Experience with Computer System Validation processes.
• Experience in a GxP environments and knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements

The salary range for this role is $145,900.00 - $234,200.00. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An individual’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, and business or organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, other incentive compensation, or equity award, subject to company plan eligibility criteria and individual performance.
