Job summary

AbbVie Inc. in Chicago seeks a data-forward scientist to join the Global Research, Informatics & Platform Solutions team. You will translate biological workflows into data solutions, build knowledge graphs for bioassays and create visualizations that accelerate discovery.

The role requires strong biology background, experience with data visualization tools (Spotfire, Plotly) and programming in Python, with the ability to work across cross-functional teams on multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of experience; Master's Degree and 5 years of experience; PhD and 0 years of experience
• Background in life sciences, biology, or equivalent required
• Working knowledge of drug discovery and development process
• Understanding of biological ontologies
• Experience working with bioassay data required
• Understanding of knowledge graphs to enhance biology data
• Collaborates with stakeholders from IT and discovery scientists
• Strong visualization skills with plotting libraries and platforms
• Able to document and present solutions to non-technical stakeholders
• Self-motivated learner with hands-on approach

Responsibilities

• Harmonization – apply biology data to harmonize knowledge graph data and derive statements
• Communicate – gather requirements from scientists on workflows and data flows
• Collaborative Design – propose solutions and develop them
• Build – design and implement data solutions that visualize and analyze complex data
• Integrate – capture and integrate internal and external datasets with ontologies
• Support – address performance issues and support data-driven demands
• Technical Proficiency - demonstrate high proficiency in data storage, transfer, integration, visualization and analytics
• Adaptability – work on multiple projects simultaneously
• Breadth – contribute to many projects related to drug discovery
• Evaluate - implement automation and AI opportunities
