Bring your expertise. Lead with compassion. Make a difference for our people.
At SAFY, our employees do meaningful work supporting children, youth, and families, and we believe the people doing that work deserve to feel equally supported.
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Benefits & Leave Administrator who combines strong technical knowledge with genuine compassion for people. This is a hands‑on role for someone who enjoys helping employees understand their benefits and supporting them through leave, accommodations, and important life events with clarity, patience, and care.
You’ll independently manage the day‑to‑day administration of SAFY’s benefits and leave programs while partnering closely with employees, leaders, vendors, and the HR team. You’ll also partner with the CHRO in reviewing benefit plans, evaluating options, and implementing benefit changes.
Who We Are
At SAFY, our mission is Preserving Families & Securing Futures. For 40 years, our work has rested on a single, radical idea – children belong in families. We believe that every child and family deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. We are a team of 500 employees across seven states providing services such as Family Preservation & Reunification, Behavioral Health, Therapeutic Foster Care, Adoption Services and Older Youth Services so the families and children we serve can build resilience and thrive.
What You’ll Do
- Administer SAFY’s medical, dental, vision, life, disability, HSA/FSA, wellness, EAP, and 401(k) programs.
- Manage FMLA and other federal, state, and SAFY leave programs from eligibility through return to work and case closure.
- Manage workers’ compensation/BWC matters, including claims coordination, documentation, wage and payroll information, work restrictions, return-to-work follow‑up, and communication with employees, managers, and third‑party partners.
- Manage unemployment claims, including gathering documentation, preparing agency responses, coordinating with internal partners, and participating in hearings as needed.
- Coordinate the ADA accommodation process, gathering documentation and providing clear, timely communication to employees and managers.
- Lead the administrative execution of annual open enrollment, including communications, system setup, vendor coordination, reporting, and audits.
- Serve as a trusted resource to employees and managers, providing clear guidance, deadlines, and next steps.
- Partner with brokers, carriers, ADP, payroll, retirement vendors, and third‑party administrators to resolve issues.
- Partner with the CHRO during benefit renewals and plan reviews by gathering and analyzing plan information, preparing comparisons, evaluating employee and administrative impacts, and supporting the implementation of approved plan changes.
- Maintain and audit benefits and leave records and identify opportunities to improve processes and the employee experience.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 5+ years of progressively responsible benefits and leave administration experience, including FMLA and accommodation case management.
- Experience administering or coordinating workers’ compensation/BWC claims and return‑to‑work matters.
- Working knowledge of benefits administration, COBRA, HIPAA privacy, FMLA, ADA accommodations, workers’ compensation, and applicable state leave requirements.
- Strong judgment and the ability to independently manage cases and projects while recognizing when escalation is needed.
- Excellent communication, organization, follow‑through, and attention to detail.
- The ability to explain complicated information clearly and compassionately while maintaining confidentiality.
Additional Requirements
- Experience supporting a multi‑state workforce, ADP Workforce Now, benefit renewals and open enrollment, and/or a PHR, SHRM‑CP, CEBS, or benefits/leave credential is a plus
- Experience working with ADP Workforce Now preferred
- SHRM‑CP or PHR preferred
- Acceptable driving record and auto insurance to meet the travel requirements
- Ability to work flexible hours daily/weekly to fulfill position responsibilities
Who Will Thrive At SAFY
- You understand that while benefits and leave may be your area of expertise, the employee you’re helping may be navigating the situation for the very first time.
- You listen. You explain. You follow through.
- You’re approachable and compassionate, but also highly organized and comfortable managing the details. You know how to balance excellent employee service with consistency, confidentiality, and compliance. And you have the experience and judgment to handle routine matters independently while recognizing when a situation needs additional support.
- If you’re an experienced benefits and leave professional who believes great HR is equal parts expertise, accuracy, and compassion, we’d love to hear from you.
