Job summary

CommonSpirit Health is seeking a Behavioral Health Specialist II to observe and support patients with mental health and/or substance use needs, under supervision of medical professionals, and using de-escalation and motivational interviewing to create a therapeutic environment.

Daily responsibilities include conducting SBIRT and SDoH screenings, administering basic treatments under RN/Social Worker/Case Manager direction, and training others in EPIC workflows and documentation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/G.E.D. required.
• Two years of experience in Behavior Health or an associate degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related human services field.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Within first year, complete SBIRT training and required observation hours for billable services.
• Within six months, complete Behavioral Health Initiatives Training Framework and related trainings.

Responsibilities

• Enforces competency in deescalation techniques and motivational interviewing to create a therapeutic environment.
• Performs direct observation and intervenes with specialized techniques learned in training.
• Performs clinical assessments such as SBIRT and SDoH screenings and other billable practices.
• Educate and train the Behavioral Health Specialist I in EPIC workflows, documentation, and timecard tracking.
• Facilitate timely referrals and placements from hospital to treatment/recovery support providers.
• Coordinates, schedules, and recruits registrants to complete trainings like SBIRT and related programs.
