Job summary

QuantumScape is seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Quality engineer to advance the reliability of solid-state Li metal batteries. You will apply data-driven methods, build metrology solutions, and collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and reliability teams to define robust specifications.

The role emphasizes computer vision, ML, and statistical analysis of large datasets from battery tests to predict performance and drive improvements, with onsite work in San Jose, California.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Math, or related fields; MS/ PhD preferred.
• 5+ years solving complex problems in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or battery/semiconductor fields.
• Strong Python programming and data science libraries (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Experience with computer vision and image processing (2D/3D) including OpenCV.

Responsibilities

• Develop hardware/components expertise and collaborate on in-line metrology systems.
• Build computer vision detection algorithms and ML models; manage labeling and maintain model performance as processes evolve.
• Collaborate with R&D to generate metrics and deep learning models for defect detection in 2D/3D images.
• Apply advanced statistics and ML to large datasets of battery and component test results.
• Build predictive models to identify features in images predicting performance and tighten specs for reliability.
• Develop repeatable measurement processes; upload data to database; use CTQs for process quality tracking.
• Use AI to query manufacturing data, clean/process it, and select best methodologies for internal projects.
