Job summary

Newnovation is hiring a Senior Backend Software Engineer to build scalable backend systems and AI-powered applications in a fast-growing environment. You will design, implement, and optimize services using TypeScript and AWS, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ship robust features.

The role requires 5–10 years of backend experience, deep knowledge of system design, and the ability to lead initiatives in an early-stage company. On-site work in San Francisco is expected.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Strong experience with TypeScript and AWS.
• Proven ability to design scalable backend systems.
• At least 12 months of experience with agentic systems, LLMs, or generative AI.
• Experience in early-stage or high-growth tech company.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture, algorithms, data structures, and system design.
• Clear written and verbal communication in English.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership.
• A formal degree in a relevant field or equivalent qualifying academic background.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend systems, including distributed systems, data processing, information retrieval, and asynchronous workflows.
• Develop infrastructure for agentic workflows and AI-powered applications.
• Build reliable APIs and backend services using TypeScript and AWS.
• Work with technologies such as S3, Lambda, RDS, SQS, ECS, FastAPI, Docker, and CI/CD.
• Make architectural decisions around scalability, reliability, performance, and observability.
• Collaborate with engineering and cross-functional teams to deliver new product capabilities.
• Write high-quality, maintainable code and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
• Take ownership of projects and operate effectively in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Help define technical direction and mentor or guide other engineers when appropriate.

Work Location

This role is on-site five days per week in San Francisco, CA. Candidates must be able to work from the San Francisco office on a full-time basis.
