Job summary

Coinbase is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Backend for the Coinbase One team. You will own backend services powering membership lifecycle, including sign-up, billing, and benefit delivery, driving subscriber growth and retention across millions of users.

You will collaborate with frontend, product, design, and payments teams to deliver scalable, reliable backend systems. Expect a remote-first culture with quarterly in-person surges and a strong focus on security and performance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience shipping and operating production services at scale.
• Experience building subscription, payments, or commerce systems (recurring billing, entitlements, or promotions).
• Proficiency in Go or a similar backend language with ability to adapt to a Go-centric codebase.
• Experience designing and maintaining APIs and distributed systems across web and mobile surfaces.
• Track record taking ambiguous projects from scoping to production with cross-functional partners.
• Uses generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Own the design, development, and operation of backend services powering the Coinbase One membership lifecycle, including sign-up flows, subscription management, and recurring payment processing.
• Build scalable platform capabilities for targeted benefits, promotions, and personalized experiences across the Coinbase retail app.
• Partner with frontend, product, design, and payments teams to scope, ship, and iterate on membership features from concept to production.
• Drive backend architecture decisions for the Coinbase One product area, establishing patterns for reliability and integration with Coinbase platform services.
• Improve service reliability, observability, and performance across Coinbase One's backend stack, proactively addressing production issues.
