Job summary

Protolabs in Maple Plain, MN is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain pricing backend services that power instant quotes across our product portfolio.

You will own the end-to-end software lifecycle, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with Product and Data teams to translate complex pricing strategies into robust, scalable solutions while shaping architecture and ensuring reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, mathematics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with backend systems.
• 2+ years in pricing, billing, payments, or financial systems in production.
• Proven track record leading projects and mentoring engineers.
• Proficiency in Python and/or C# for production-grade systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend services for pricing, including rate engines and billing integrations.
• Own end-to-end software lifecycle: design, reviews, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
• Partner with Product, Finance, Sales, and Data to translate pricing strategies into robust solutions.
• Lead architectural decisions and strengthen the platform’s technical foundation.
• Mentor mid-level and junior engineers and drive best practices.
• Troubleshoot production issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes.
• Monitor performance, optimize queries, and ensure pricing APIs meet SLA targets.
• Enhance CI/CD pipelines and IaC practices for reliability.
• Ensure pricing systems comply with regulatory and business requirements.
