Job summary

Atlassian is seeking an experienced backend engineer in San Francisco with 5+ years building scalable backend systems. You will own complex projects end-to-end, tackle architecture challenges, and drive high-quality code reviews. You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate across teams on company-wide initiatives.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building backend applications.
• Senior-level in one or more languages such as Java, Python, Kotlin, Go or Scala.
• Experience with SaaS/PaaS/IaaS and public clouds (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Fluency in relational or NoSQL databases.
• Experience designing scalable microservices and distributed systems.
• Knowledge of agile methodologies (XP, Scrum).
• Ability to mentor engineers and influence decisions.

Responsibilities

• Drive large, complex projects autonomously from design to launch.
• Tackle architecture challenges and apply standards on new projects.
• Lead code reviews and documentation; fix high-risk bugs.
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across teams.
• Collaborate across engineering to support company-wide initiatives.
• Ensure decisions consider customer impact and trade-offs.
