Job summary

Airwallex is seeking a Backend Engineer for the Growth team in San Francisco. You will architect, develop, and maintain scalable microservices powering global user acquisition and engagement strategies.

You will collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and frontend engineers to enable experimentation, data-driven decisions, and robust, secure backend solutions. Experience with Java/Kotlin and distributed systems is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or above in computer science or engineering related majors
• 5+ years of experience in modern engineering practices
• Strong fundamentals in computer science and OOP
• Experience with domain-driven design and event-driven architectures
• Deep experience with high throughput/low latency distributed systems
• Cloud experience with GCP (preferred) or AWS, and familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
• Familiarity with observability tooling such as Splunk

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and maintain microservices for growth initiatives
• Enable experimentation and data-driven decision making
• Collaborate with data scientists and product managers to design data pipelines and analytics platforms
• Ensure growth data is accurate, reliable, and accessible for decisions
• Translate business requirements into scalable backend solutions with cross-functional teams
• Participate in architectural and code reviews to improve backend quality
• Develop services that support rapid A/B testing and real-time monitoring
• Integrate secure coding practices to protect user data and meet global compliance
