Job summary

Wag! Group Co. seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join our backend team in downtown Miami. You will enhance the core backend API, support cloud infrastructure, and build AI-enabled workflows across PHP/Laravel and Python services.

We value experience with AI coding agents, scalable backend systems, and AWS-based architecture. This full-time, in-person role requires working from the Miami office 5 days a week.

Qualifications

• Significant experience building and operating scalable backend systems in production.
• Demonstrated experience building software with AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex.
• Proficiency in PHP, ideally Laravel, and working proficiency in Python.
• Experience with event-driven and queue-based architectures, particularly AWS SQS.
• Experience running containerized services in production, ideally on ECS.
• Ability to work in-person 5x a week in our downtown Miami office

Responsibilities

• Own the backend platform from client-facing API to server and database infrastructure in AWS.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and explain tradeoffs.
• Break down features into releasable components and estimate release schedules.
• Design and implement core products within our PHP and Laravel API from OpenAPI specs.
• Build and enhance internal backend systems in Python and AWS Lambda.
• Maintain production infra using Terraform, ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, and IAM.
• Participate in production monitoring and incident response.
• Integrate AI-powered solutions into the product.
• Improve agent workflows and tooling for AI in a large codebase
