Job summary

Grafana Labs, a remote-first company, is seeking a Senior Software (Database) Engineer to help build the underlying storage layer of our general purpose data platform. You’ll work on an OLAP/OTLP capable system with compute-storage separation, across cloud providers, and high autonomy.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering skills building production-grade, user-facing software systems.
• Experience with distributed systems, catalogs and table formats, query engines.
• Mastery of a programming language like Golang, C++, or Rust.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership over and build database components: ingestion, query planning, distributed query execution, data formats, storage formats.
• Create a scalable SaaS foundation with multi-tenant architecture, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs, and background jobs.
• Build APIs and interfaces for AI agents, MCP tools, CLIs, and internal apps to retrieve data quickly.
• Collaborate across product and infrastructure, balancing fast experiments with long-term reliability.
• Instrument database services with metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and dashboards to improve reliability.
• Contribute to technical direction: architecture, service boundaries, storage choices, deployment patterns.
