Job summary

Cape is seeking a Senior/Staff backend engineer to own architecture across identity, provisioning, billing, and more. You will work with Product, Mobile and SRE to enable new features and re-architect services as we scale. You’ll collaborate across teams to deliver mission-critical systems with strong privacy and reliability.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience building and operating scalable backend systems.
• Strong CS fundamentals: algorithms, data structures, and distributed systems.
• Hands-on distributed systems experience with queues, async workflows, idempotency and retries.
• Experience leading a significant re-architecture or migration on a live system.
• Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Enable scale by re-architecting services and migrating live flows safely.
• Own features that span multiple foundational components from discovery to deployment.
• Raise the bar with end-to-end testing, continuous deployment, and zero-downtime migrations.
• Collaborate with Product, Mobile, SRE, and Design to shape the infrastructure they run on.
• Mentor engineers through pairing, reviews, and written designs.
