Weekday is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to contribute to AI system training and evaluation. This remote contractor role offers flexible hours (~15 hours per week) with pay between $30 and $100 per hour.

The position emphasizes backend development, scalable services, and high-performance software, with tasks including feature implementation, bug fixes, refactoring, and automated verification.

Qualifications

• Extensive backend development experience and production-grade systems.
• Proficiency in one or more languages listed (Java, Node.js, Go, Rust, TypeScript, Python, C++).
• Experience designing scalable services and APIs.
• Strong CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, system design.
• Experience debugging, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and code review.
• Experience with automated testing and test design.
• Ability to identify defects, edge cases, inefficient algorithms, and architectural weaknesses.
• Strong communication and independent judgment.

Responsibilities

• Design challenging, real-world software engineering problems involving feature implementation, bug fixes, code refactoring, and performance optimization.
• Create high-quality reference implementations demonstrating correct, efficient approaches.
• Build deterministic verifiers, validation scripts, and comprehensive test cases.
• Apply backend engineering expertise to scalable services, APIs, asynchronous processing, and distributed systems.
• Analyze defects, investigate bottlenecks, and identify root causes of issues.
• Design testing strategies and maintain large test suites; diagnose flaky tests.
• Review code for correctness, readability, and maintainability.
• Refactor and optimize legacy code to improve performance and reliability.
• Evaluate AI-generated reasoning on architecture, debugging, and design decisions.
• Document task requirements, behavior, and verification criteria clearly.
• Continuously improve tasks and evaluation methods.
