Job summary

Quanata, LLC is seeking a Senior Back End Engineer to design, build, and maintain core services powering our insurance‑tech platform. You will own complex features, influence architecture, data flows, and APIs while mentoring peers in a remote‑first team across the US.

The Role

As a Senior Back End Engineer, you’ll design, build, and maintain the core services and infrastructure that power Quanata’s products and business operations. You’ll develop scalable back end systems, connect data and machine learning workflows, and help ensure the platform remains performant, reliable, and secure.

You’ll take ownership of complex product features from design through deployment while contributing to architecture, data flows, APIs, databases, observability, and platform reliability.

As a senior individual contributor, you’ll also have the opportunity to shape technical decisions and support other engineers through mentorship, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.

Your Day‑to‑Day
  • Design, develop, and maintain client‑facing and internal APIs that support product and business functionality.
  • Architect and orchestrate data flows across back end services, applications, and third‑party systems.
  • Design and manage database schemas and data storage solutions that support scalable applications.
  • Lead the design, development, and delivery of complex product features from concept through deployment.
  • Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks and contribute to software quality and reliability.
  • Evaluate, integrate, and support third‑party services, tools, and platforms.
  • Improve system architecture, performance, observability, security, and reliability.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and knowledge sharing across the engineering team.
About You
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 6–8 years of experience in back end or full‑stack software engineering roles.
  • Working knowledge of the Go programming language, and professional experience developing applications and services using Go, Python, Ruby, TypeScript, or C#
  • Experience designing, developing, debugging, and deploying high‑performance client/server systems that support business‑critical applications.
  • Experience with database technologies and messaging systems, including evaluating and selecting solutions based on business and technical requirements.
  • Experience working with cloud‐based infrastructure and modern CI/CD practices.
  • Knowledge of software security principles, testing methodologies, and engineering best practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Demonstrated initiative, accountability, and ownership of technical outcomes.
  • Ability to mentor and support the growth of other engineers.
Bonus Points
  • Familiarity with technologies used by the team, including GraphQL, gRPC, Postgres, Mongo, Snowflake, Kafka, Python, TypeScript, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.
  • Experience in a financial sector such as insurance, banking, or investing.

Salary: $195,000 to $280,000*

*Please note that the final salary offered will be determined based on the selected candidate's skills, and experience, as well as the internal salary structure at Quanata. Our aim is to offer a competitive and equitable compensation package that reflects the candidate's expertise and contributions to our organization.

Some positions might require travel per the job description provided to the employee.Employees based in the San Francisco Bay Area or in Providence, Rhode Island may commute to one of our local offices as desired.
  • Hours : We maintain core meeting hours from 9AM - 2PM Pacific time for collaborating with team members across all time zones.
