Job summary

Eliassen Group is seeking a Senior Azure Data Engineer to modernize a data platform by migrating workloads to Azure Data Lake and building scalable data pipelines with Databricks and Data Factory. This contract-to-hire role emphasizes both hands-on development and guiding architectural decisions across Bronze to Gold data layers.

You'll ingest, validate, and harmonize data from legacy sources, collaborating with teammates and business partners.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of data engineering in enterprise environments.
• Experience with Azure Databricks and Azure Data Factory.
• Strong SQL and Python/PySpark development skills.
• Experience designing batch ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Experience implementing data-quality, data-validation, and reconciliation.
• Knowledge of medallion or lakehouse architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold).
• Experience with relational databases and large datasets.
• Understanding of data modeling, partitioning, and performance optimization.
• Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD practices.
• Familiarity with healthcare/finance data and regulated environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain data pipelines using Azure Databricks and Azure Data Factory.
• Migrate ETL workloads from on-premises Oracle/DataStage to Azure data lake.
• Develop scalable ingestion, transformation, and processing solutions.
• Implement medallion architecture across Bronze, Silver, Gold layers.
• Embed data-quality checks and validation into pipelines and workflows.
• Automate validation/testing to improve data product reliability.
• Guide data-architecture discussions and engineering standards.
• Troubleshoot pipeline failures and performance issues.
• Collaborate with engineers, analysts, architects, and stakeholders to translate requirements.
• Participate in code reviews, documentation, testing, deployment, and improvement efforts.
