Job summary

Garmin in Salem, OR seeks a Senior Avionics Installation Technician to lead and install complex certified and experimental avionics systems in FAR 23/25/27/29 airplanes, using advanced interface, troubleshooting, and configuration techniques.

You will mentor lower-level technicians and prepare wiring harnesses per engineering docs while ensuring FAA paperwork like logs and 337 forms are completed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and 10+ years avionics experience in general aviation.
• Experience installing avionics on piston, turbine and turbojet aircraft.
• Ability to read and interpret aircraft wiring diagrams and drawings.
• Proven leadership and mentoring abilities with technicians and apprentices.

Responsibilities

• Develop documentation and best practices for new avionics systems and cooperate with management/customers.
• Modify complex aircraft installations to fit panel and remote avionics equipment.
• Prepare wiring harnesses per engineering drawings and installation docs.
• Troubleshoot interconnects and assist in new installation documentation development.

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Senior Avionics Installation Technician at Garmin's locaiton in Salem, OR. In this role, you will be responsible for leading, mentoring, and installing complex certified and experimental avionics systems in FAR (Federal Aviation Regulations) part 23, 25, 27, and 29 aircraft utilizing advanced interface, troubleshooting, and configuration techniques.

Mon-Fri 8:00am - 5:00pm

Essential Functions

• Develop documentation and best practices for new avionics systems as well as partnering with management/customers to exceed certification standards
• Modify complex aircraft installations to accommodate panel and remote mounted avionics equipment
• Prepare new aircraft wiring harnesses in accordance with Engineering drawings and installation documents
• Troubleshoot existing avionics installation interconnects and partner/lead Engineering in development and verification of new installation documentation
• Partner with Engineering to improve processes, functions and drawings, use ramp test equipment to verify proper function of installed avionics, and serve as Avionics Inspector for Repair Station
• Completion of Repair Station and aircraft paperwork (logbook entries, FAA 337, W&B, etc.)
• Compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements
• Serve as a mentor and installation expert for lower-level technicians and apprentices.
• Assist in maintenance and aircraft movement in the hangar
• Must possess the ability to routinely bend, twist, and lift up to 50 lbs. and occasionally team lift up to 100 lbs. while using safe lifting techniques; pushing/pulling equipment up to 200 lbs.; standing and sitting for extended periods of time; kneeling, stooping, crouching, and crawling; climbing and utilizing ladders to connect cables and walking long distances throughout the facility; repetitive motion; tolerates products, materials and fumes associated with aircraft maintenance; tolerates working in confined spaces and heights above four feet

Basic Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED AND a minimum of 10 years avionics experience related to general aviation aircraft
• Must possess a minimum of 10 years general aviation, maintenance or avionics experience and/or equivalent combination of education, military aviation experience and/or aviation related experience
• Must possess experience substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description with installing avionics systems in piston, turbine and turbojet aircraft
• Must possess demonstrated ability to read and interpret aircraft wiring diagrams, advanced system integration and aircraft configuration
• Demonstrated ability of aircraft wiring harness termination techniques, wire harness fabrication and harness installation techniques in general aviation aircraft
• Demonstrated advanced avionics systems knowledge and aircraft troubleshooting skills
• Demonstrated ability in the operational testing and modification of aircraft pitot-static systems, including aircraft transponder testing and RVSM requirements
• Knowledge of FAA Regulations relating to avionics installations, testing requirements and how to apply those to assigned tasks and a full working knowledge of required FAA paperwork and aircraft documentation
• Ability to lead other technicians in an avionics installation project
• Must possess the ability to routinely bend, twist, and lift up to 50 lbs. and occasionally team lift up to 100 lbs. while using safe lifting techniques; pushing/pulling equipment up to 200 lbs.; standing and sitting for extended periods of time; kneeling, stooping, crouching, and crawling; climbing and utilizing ladders to connect cables and walking long distances throughout the facility; repetitive motion; tolerates products, materials and fumes associated with aircraft maintenance; tolerates working in confined spaces and heights above four feet
• Tolerates working in extreme temperatures and noisy environments

Desired Qualifications

• FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic certificate
• Experience using desktop computer systems
• Experience producing and modifying drawings using AutoCAD
• Basic aircraft sheet metal skills relating to avionics installations
