Job summary

Rocket Lab in Chantilly, VA is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer II to lead avionics hardware design for EO systems. You will own the full lifecycle from requirements through production, collaborating with systems, mechanical, and software teams to deliver robust, space-ready electronics.

You will drive complex FPGA/processor implementations, perform verification and environmental qualification, and mentor junior engineers while engaging suppliers and manufacturing partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering or related field
• 8+ years of electrical hardware design experience
• Ability to develop blank-sheet design concepts
• Experience in PCBA design with FPGAs
• Knowledge of processors, FPGAs, switch-mode power supplies, communication interfaces and analog instrumentation
• Strong background in analog electronics design
• Proficiency performing circuit analyses using SPICE and Excel
• U.S. citizenship is required due to program requirements

Responsibilities

• Own complete lifecycle of avionics hardware for command and control of electro-optical systems
• Lead architecture decisions to advance EO sensor capabilities across missions
• Design and integrate complex electronics including FPGA, microcontroller, and analog subsystems
• Develop Payload level designs including processing units and imagers
• Perform schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer
• Plan and execute design verification testing and system integration testing
• Own environmental qualification programs including EMI/EMC, TVAC, shock, and vibration tests
• Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior engineers and support staff
• Interface with suppliers and manufacturing partners
• Support production manufacturing including DFM reviews and yield improvement
• Participate in design reviews and present technical recommendations to leadership
