Job summary

Impulse Space is seeking a Senior Avionics Electrical Engineer in Redondo Beach to design and test spacecraft avionics hardware. You’ll collaborate with software, propulsion, GNC, and test teams to meet mission requirements.

You will lead hardware bring-up, testing, debugging, and integration onto space vehicles, contributing from circuit design to flight readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience with electronic component selection, analysis, simulation, schematics, and layout.
• 5+ years of mixed-signal and analog circuit design including DAC/ADC, opamps, filtering, and signal integrity.
• 3+ years of hands-on board-level troubleshooting of electronics.

Responsibilities

• Develop circuit boards for spacecraft with emphasis on analog, digital, or control electronics.
• Perform analyses and simulations of avionics devices and systems.
• Own hardware design from bring-up and debugging through qualification and flight operations.
• Define hardware interfaces and verify requirements.
• Maintain high technical standards in hardware development.

Senior Avionics Electrical Engineer

Reporting To: Steven Selep, Lead Avionics Engineer

Compensation: $140,000 - $180,000 / year

As a Senior Avionics Electrical Engineer, you will design and test custom circuit boards and other avionics devices that enable our space vehicles to meet mission requirements. You will work directly with software engineers, propulsion engineers, GNC engineers, and others.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to all aspects of spacecraft electronics development, from designing new circuit boards to testing, debugging and integrating them onto space vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Develop circuit boards for spacecraft, with an emphasis on analog, digital or control electronics
• Perform rigorous analyses and simulations of avionics devices and systems
• Act as the Responsible Engineering authority for your hardware, owning your design from board bring-up and debugging in the lab through qualification and flight operations
• Define hardware interfaces and verify requirements
• Establish and maintain high technical standards
• Partner with firmware, software, mechanical, manufacturing and test teams

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
• 5+ years of experience in electronic component selection, analysis, simulation, schematics, and layout
• 5+ years of experience in mixed-signal and analog circuit design including analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters, opamps, filtering, signal integrity, etc.
• 3+ years of hands‑on experience troubleshooting electronics problems at the board level
• Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concerns

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
• 2+ years of experience with Altium Designer
• 5+ years of demonstrated experience doing new development work for any of the following: power converters, load switches, engine controllers, processors, or any other specialized area relevant to spacecraft or rockets
• Experience in a startup or agile development environment

Additional Information:

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full‑time hires, you may also be eligible for long‑term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
