Job summary

Blue Origin LLC in the Greater Seattle area is seeking an Avionics Sr Communications Engineer to lead design of the MK-1 lunar lander communications subsystem. You will develop in-space architectures, decompose requirements, and coordinate with test and integration teams to ensure performance in radiation and thermal environments.

The role requires 10+ years in spacecraft communications, RF expertise, and experience with interfaces like RS-422, Ethernet, SpaceWire, and HDLC, plus MATLAB/Python

Qualifications

• Minimum of a B.S. degree in electrical engineering.
• 10+ years of experience in communication systems or RF testing.
• Experience delivering communications systems for spacecraft applications and addressing radiation effects.

Responsibilities

• Develop communication system design for one or more in-space architectures.
• Allocate and decompose higher level functions and requirements to the Communications Subsystems.
• Support alignment and implementation of Lunar Permanence System engineering practices.
• Manage system and lower-level requirements, including change control, audits, and coordination with other teams.
• Develop ConOps and maintain analyses and simulations (link budgets, coverage analyses).
• Coordinate with Integration & Test teams to ensure test facilities meet requirements.
• Track V&V activities and review subsystem test plans.
• Define vehicle-level interfaces between systems and components.
• Author safety artifacts including functional hazard assessments and mitigations.
• Mentor early career systems engineers.
