Job summary

Software Placement Group (SPG) is seeking a Senior Automation & Robotic Cell Design Engineer for a Direct Hire position near Milwaukee. The role is 100% onsite, first shift, with a focus on leading mechanical design integrity for high-speed automation and robotic cells.

You will use SolidWorks to model large assemblies, specify hydraulics and servo systems, and guide cross-functional teams from project conception through BOM releases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or 5–10 years of verifiable, ground-up custom equipment design experience in heavy machinery or high-speed automation.
• Expert fluency in SolidWorks for modeling large assemblies, managing configurations, and drafting production-ready drawings.
• Proven history of maintaining project schedules and budgets, with strong employment tenure.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design integrity and engineering accuracy for high-speed, multi-axis automated machinery and robotic work cells.
• Develop concepts and collaborate with Project Managers to create cost-effective, high-performance automated solutions.
• Break down complex design scopes into milestones, guiding internal detailers/designers and coordinating with external fabrication partners.
• Integrate fluid power and drive mechanics, applying advanced engineering principles to select hydraulics, pneumatics, and servo systems.
• Conduct early-stage design reviews to eliminate safety hazards, pinch points, and ergonomic issues prior to shop release.
• Serve as technical contact for global clients while managing BOM engineering releases and resolving assembly floor issues in real time.

Overview

A high-growth, international OEM that designs ground-up, complex custom automation and robotic cells for global market leaders across North America and Europe is seeking a Senior Automation & Robotic Cell Design Engineer for a Direct Hire opportunity. This role offers a rare chance to see custom mechanical designs manufactured, wired, and assembled on-site, working closely with machinists, builders, and controls engineers in a facility that houses design bays and the assembly floor under one roof.

Required qualifications

• Expert fluency in SolidWorks for modeling large assemblies, managing configurations, and drafting production-ready drawings
• Practical understanding of structural weldments (GMAW/GTAW), material selection, machine shop processes, and precision machining tolerances
• Proven history of maintaining project schedules and budgets, with strong employment tenure
• U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency (Green Card) required; must reside within a dependable daily commute radius of Brown Deer, WI

Preferred qualifications

• Hands-on experience designing end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) and integrating Fanuc or ABB robotic arms into automated lines
• Familiarity with European machinery safety standards (CE marking, ISO 13849 safety integration)
• Background working directly alongside controls engineers to co-design servo-driven motion profiles and sensor placement

Compensation and benefits

• Base salary up to $120,000 with full benefits
