Job summary
MartinFed in Beltsville, MD seeks an Automation & Controls / Instrumentation Engineer to design, implement, maintain, and improve PLC-based control systems, SCADA/HMI apps, and data acquisition for fire testing facilities. You will program VBA, C and SQL languages, integrate sensors, and ensure reliable operation and compliant data collection.

Qualifications
- US Citizenship required with ability to obtain DoJ security clearance
- Background check clearance required
- Bachelor's degree with at least 11 years of relevant experience OR Master's with 9+ years OR Ph.D./Doctorate with 12+ years of experience
Responsibilities
- Design, program, troubleshoot, and maintain instrumentation/automation control systems
- Develop and maintain HMI/SCADA applications
- Configure Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, OPC, and industrial networks
- Design, configure, and troubleshoot data acquisition (DAQ) systems
- Install, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot sensors (temp, pressure, flow, load cell, etc.)
- Perform system commissioning, validation, and preventive maintenance
- Configure analog/digital I/O modules
- Support SQL databases and historians and automated data collection
- Prepare engineering documentation and wiring diagrams
- Support laboratory operations during testing
