Job summary

Novartis in Durham, NC is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer (Downstream Buffer) to lead design and maintenance of GMP and non-GMP control systems across DCS, BMS/EMS, MES and local systems. This onsite role requires strong engineering background and hands-on project leadership.

Responsibilities include configuring and deploying automation software, leading project objectives, validating systems, driving continous improvement, and coordinating with Quality and operations to ensure compliant

Qualifications

BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
8 years in pharma GMP manufacturing (12 years optional equivalent).
Strong communication and technical writing skills.
Experience with site DCS/SCADA/HMI systems and data historians.
Knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11 and quality by design.
Experience leading projects and coordinating with QA.

Responsibilities

Lead design, configuration, installation, and maintenance of automation software and hardware.
Oversee automation aspects of projects and integration of third-party equipment.
Prepare scopes of work and manage automation contractors.
Develop project objectives with user requirements and business plans.
Establish specifications and maintain GMP documentation.
Drive continuous improvement and site-wide operational excellence.
Support 24x7 operations and on-call duties.
Perform investigations and change controls for automation systems.
