Job summary

Fortune Personnel Consultants - Orlando Office seeks a Senior Automation Engineer to lead automation strategy and deployment for global manufacturing in Indianapolis, IN. You will oversee cross-functional collaboration with product development, operations, robotics, equipment, and plant teams.

You will guide standards, manage system integration, and mentor a Midwest team, with ~10% travel to global sites. Battery of projects includes PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and vision systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field.
• 6–12 years of Automation/Controls/Robotics experience.
• Experience deploying automation solutions with PLCs, HMIs, robotics, sensors, drives, safety systems.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead automation strategy, standards, and reusable controls architectures for global manufacturing.
• Direct development of automation solutions for equipment, lines, robotics, and connected systems.
• Guide integration of PLCs, HMIs, robotics, vision, sensors, and networks into reliable manufacturing solutions.
• Support deployment from concept through commissioning and startup at global facilities.
• Improve uptime, throughput, quality, and equipment reliability through continuous improvement.
• Lead and mentor a Midwest automation engineering team in controls architecture and problem solving.
• Travel ~10% to global facilities including Switzerland and Japan.

Job description

We are looking for a Senior Automation Engineer in Indianapolis, IN to join a Global Consumer Product Design and Technology company supporting their global manufacturing operations. This role focuses on leading the development, standardization, and deployment of manufacturing automation solutions across global operations.

You will lead a Midwest-based automation engineering team while working closely with product development, manufacturing, operations, robotics, equipment, and plant teams. You will develop automation solutions and oversee their deployment to global production sites.

Job Functions

• Automation Strategy and Standards - You will define automation strategy, engineering standards, reusable controls architecture, and best practices supporting global manufacturing operations.
• Automation Solution Development - You will lead the development of automation solutions for manufacturing equipment, production lines, robotic cells, material handling, inspection, and connected manufacturing systems.
• Controls, Robotics, and Systems Integration - You will guide the integration of PLCs, HMIs, robotics, machine vision, sensors, drives, safety systems, and industrial networks into reliable manufacturing solutions.
• Global Manufacturing Deployment - You will support automation projects from concept through equipment design, vendor coordination, factory acceptance testing, commissioning, startup, and deployment at global manufacturing facilities.
• Continuous Improvement and Technical Problem Solving - You will work with plant and manufacturing teams to improve uptime, throughput, cycle time, quality, equipment reliability, and operator usability.
• Team Leadership and Mentorship - You will lead a Midwest automation engineering team and mentor engineers on controls architecture, robotics integration, safety, troubleshooting, technical standards, and practical problem solving.
• This role includes approximately 10% travel to global manufacturing facilities including locations in Switzerland, Japan, etc.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 6-12 years of Automation Engineering, Controls Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Manufacturing Automation, Systems Integration, or related engineering experience.
• Deployed manufacturing automation solutions involving PLCs, HMIs, robotics, sensors, drives, safety systems, and industrial equipment.
• Experience with PLC and HMI platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk, TIA Portal, WinCC, Ignition, or similar platforms.
• Robotics experience a plus but not a requirement
• Knowledge of industrial networking and communications, including EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, OPC UA, Modbus, etc.
• Experience supporting equipment design, vendor coordination, factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
• Ability to work across product development, manufacturing, operations, robotics, equipment, and global plant teams.
• Someone comfortable leading technical work in a fast-moving product environment and challenging conventional approaches when a better solution is needed.

Salary Range: $150,000 - $175,000 + Bonus + Benefits
