Job summary

Amazon.com Services LLC in Kentucky is hiring a Senior Automation Engineer to lead reliability and maintenance engineering for material handling systems. You will apply deep controls expertise to troubleshoot, diagnose, and improve PLC/robotic systems across fulfillment centers.

The role requires a BS in CS/EE/Automation or 4 years PLC/automation experience, plus 4 years in process or production environments with robotics and control systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in CS/EE/Automation or related field or 4 years PLC programming/automation experience.
  • 4 years experience in a process or production environment with PLC-controlled automation and issue diagnosis.
  • 4 years experience with robotics work cells and control systems.
  • 4 years experience with Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Codesys ladder logic and structured programming.
  • 4 years experience with electrical theory, robotics, control components, and automated equipment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends/nights/holidays.
  • Masters degree in CS/EE/Automation or related field preferred.
  • Masters degree or Six Sigma Black Belt certification preferred.
  • Experience leading controls in manufacturing or complex industrial settings preferred.
  • Experience maintaining/troubleshooting motor controls (starters, VFDs, DC drives, components) preferred.
  • Experience interpreting/updating mechanical and electrical drawings preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot engineering issues, perform deep dives, identify root causes, and help reduce downtime of critical assets.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Operations Engineering, FC Start-up, AFT Software, ACES, and Safety teams to optimize MHE systems and deliver projects.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems, including PLC/PC controllers and Ethernet/ControlNet/DeviceNet/Profibus networks.
  • Monitor MHE performance metrics and work with maintenance/operations to resolve site-wide issues.
  • Provide escalation support to automation engineers during/after hours, remotely and on-site.
  • Mentor junior engineers and build team capability through technical leadership.
  • Lead cross-functional efforts to implement projects and improve system designs for higher throughput.
  • Work with conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print-and-apply, and SCADA devices/programs.
  • Must lift up to 49 lbs, stand/walk up to 12 hours, climb ladders, and perform frequent bending and reaching.

  • We work with technologies such as conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print-and-apply systems, and SCADA devices and programs.
  • We must be able to lift up to 49 lbs, stand and walk for up to 12-hour shifts, climb ladders and gangways safely, and perform frequent bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching.
