Your Opportunity

The Senior Automation Engineer for BAS/BMS/PLC systems guides the technical design of projects as a subject matter expert, mentor, and resource to the technical team. Position delegates, leads, and directs work of Project Engineers and Designers. The role will conceptualize, execute, and ensure quality throughout the design process to meet our clients’ needs and expectations.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of engineering practices and principles in own discipline and basic knowledge of practices and principals in other disciplines.
  • Manage the complete design and scope of services for each project; review the timeline and hours budgeted; identify any inconsistencies and address them with the client and Project Manager.
  • Delegate the designing of engineering subsystems to team members in their discipline.
  • Manage and deliver the detailed design of the entire engineering system; apply extensive knowledge of building codes and standards; perform equipment selection.
  • Manage technical risk, quality, and avoid redesign.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines ensuring all automation and controls-related work is incorporated into the design.
  • Follows Stantec’s quality management process; conducts project reviews and approvals before all QA/QC reviews done by the technical authority.
  • Adept at writing comprehensive reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
  • Equipped to analyze, problem solve, and train others; organized and attentive to detail; flexible and collaborative.
  • Participate in the preparation, review, and approval of RFPs response content and pricing.
  • Able to independently resolve complex problems within the engineer’s discipline.
  • Acts as supervisor and resource to technical design team; supports and assists staff education and development.
  • Actively participates in the engineering/professional community to build personal knowledge and professional growth (e.g. attends meetings / seminars / conferences and/or write articles for trade magazines).

  • Comprehensive knowledge of engineering practices and principles in own discipline and basic knowledge of practices and principals in other disciplines.
  • Able to conceptualize and develop solutions for multifaceted systems and interactions with varied disparate components.
  • Strong communicator who effectively conveys scope, schedule, and budget to clients, co-workers, and technical teams (e.g. work plan, statement of work, and 2-way communication).
  • Adept at writing comprehensive reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
  • Equipped to analyze, problem solve, and train others; organized and attentive to detail; flexible and collaborative.
  • Able to independently resolve complex problems within the engineer’s discipline.
Education and Experience
  • Accredited engineering degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum 10 years related industry experience.
  • Registered professional engineer (PE) license or other professional certification based on expertise preferred.
  • Experience in engineering design, consulting, or other facets of DDC or PLC industry for tenant improvement projects, new construction buildings, central plant work, existing facility upgrades or related markets.
Pay Range

Locations in MN, OH, VT, & Various CA, NY Areas– $107,100.00 – $160,700.00 Annually

Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ Areas– $117,800.00 – $176,800.00 Annually

Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA areas– $126,400.00 – $189,600.00 Annually

Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary

Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law). Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law. The benefits information listed above may not apply to union positions because benefits for such positions are governed by applicable collective bargaining agreements.
