Job summary

Southern Auto Group in Newport News, VA is seeking an Automotive Service Technician to diagnose, service, and repair cars and light trucks in a full-service shop. You will perform inspections, complete maintenance, and ensure quality workmanship and safety standards while delivering excellent customer service.

Required are a high school diploma or GED, auto tech training or equivalent, and ASE/license readiness.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Post-secondary automotive training or equivalent work experience.
Two years of dealer-level or large facility experience preferred.
ASE certification or willingness to obtain certification.
Virginia State Inspection License or willingness to obtain license.
Broad scope of automotive mechanical/electrical knowledge.
Unrestricted driver's license and clean driving record.
Able to drive both automatic and standard-transmission vehicles.
Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to maintain composure under stress.
Highly professional and dependable.
Safety- and customer service-oriented.
Basic computer and internet skills.
Able to bend, kneel, squat, stand, and lift heavy objects as needed.

Responsibilities

Diagnoses issues based on experience, analysis, and testing
Performs routine service inspections or tests and completes standard maintenance jobs
Repairs automobiles and light trucks as assigned
Maintains cleanliness of vehicles while performing service or repairs
Ensures that required documentation is complete and is in compliance with regulations and standards
Helps maintain shop appearance and safety standards and ensures the shop runs efficiently by performing duties such as inventory stocking and other general functions
Follows all shop policies, procedures, safety, and environmental rules
Attends all staff meetings, training, and educational classes as required
Performs other duties as assigned
