Jobbeschreibung

The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. We work at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems.

CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. With each new and innovative program, our strategy is grounded in maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, that programs are designed to scale nationally, and learnings are shared globally.

At CHAI, our people are our greatest asset, and none of this work would be possible without their talent, time, dedication, and passion for our mission and values. We are a highly diverse team of enthusiastic individuals across 40 countries with a broad range of skill sets and life experiences. CHAI is deeply grounded in the countries we work in, with the majority of our staff based in program countries. Learn more about our exciting work http//www.clintonhealthaccess.org

CHAI is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and is committed to providing an environment of fairness, and mutual respect where all applicants have access to equal employment opportunities. CHAI values diversity and inclusion, and recognizes that our mission is best advanced by the leadership and contributions of people with diverse experience, backgrounds, and culture.

Program Overview

CHAI's Global Diagnostics Team (GDT) works across disease areas and countries to expand access to high-quality, affordable diagnostic services and technologies. The team supports governments and partners to strengthen laboratory systems, improve diagnostic networks, introduce and scale new technologies, and address market, procurement, supply-chain, and health-system barriers that limit access to testing.

As a cross-cutting global team, GDT works closely with CHAI country and program teams, governments, donors, manufacturers, procurement partners, and other global health stakeholders. The team combines technical understanding of diagnostics with market intelligence, quantitative analysis, and practical understanding of procurement and supply-chain dynamics to inform decisions and improve access to diagnostic products and services.

Position Overview

CHAI is seeking a highly analytical, rigorous, and self-motivated Senior Associate to lead and strengthen market intelligence within the Global Diagnostics Team. The role independently owns analytical work end to end — framing the questions and data requirements, then collecting, analyzing, validating, and synthesizing the evidence into final reports and presentations. The work spans diagnostic technologies and laboratory markets, including emerging areas such as genomic sequencing, alongside procurement, supply chain, supplier markets, pricing, and access to diagnostic products and services.

We are looking for a fast learner who can quickly get up to speed on unfamiliar technical and market topics, ask the right questions, and translate complex scientific, financial, operational, procurement, and supply-chain information into clear insights and recommendations. Existing knowledge or experience in these areas is a strong advantage.

A core part of the role is partnering closely with CHAI country teams — along with laboratories, governments, suppliers, and procurement partners — to keep global market intelligence grounded in country demand, laboratory operations, and real procurement and supply-chain dynamics. It is a hands‑on role the successful candidate will work directly with complex and imperfect datasets, manage analytical workstreams independently, and produce high‑quality, decision‑ready outputs that inform practical action.

This role can also be offered at a Manager level, commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate. It can be based in the United States or in a CHAI program country, subject to country team leadership approval and work authorization.

  • Lead market intelligence and analytical work end-to-end, from defining analytical questions and data requirements through data collection, validation, analysis, synthesis, and development of final reports and presentations.
  • Conduct rigorous quantitative and qualitative analyses using multiple, often incomplete or fragmented data sources, with strong attention to data quality, consistency, assumptions, accuracy, and documentation.
  • Communicate analytical findings clearly and effectively to technical and non-technical audiences, tailoring messages and recommendations to different stakeholders and supporting decision‑making through concise, well‑structured presentations and written outputs.
  • Partner closely with CHAI country teams and in‑country stakeholders to define data needs, collect, triangulate, and validate information, and interpret findings in context; leverage CHAI’s country‑level footprint to ensure a strong link between global market intelligence, country demand, laboratory operations, and implementation realities.
  • Translate complex quantitative, technical, market, procurement, and supply‑chain information into clear, decision‑ready insights and recommendations to improve market visibility, procurement and supply‑chain decision‑making, and access to diagnostic products and services.
  • Independently manage analytical workstreams, including work planning, timelines, stakeholder follow‑up, quality assurance, and delivery of high‑quality outputs; engage country teams and laboratories, including through in‑country engagement where required, to understand operational challenges and translate analytical findings into practical actions. Apply AI‑enabled analytical tools where appropriate to improve the efficiency and quality of research, analysis, and synthesis.
Required
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a relevant field and 5 years minimum relevant professional experience. Relevant backgrounds may include global health, public health, economics, business, engineering, data science, management consulting, life sciences, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting market intelligence or related analytical work — e.g. market sizing, demand forecasting, supplier landscaping, pricing or cost analysis, financial modelling, or commercial analysis.
  • Proven ability to run analytical workstreams independently and end to end, managing priorities, timelines, and multiple stakeholders to deliver on time.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving skills able to structure ambiguous questions, work with imperfect or fragmented data, challenge assumptions, rapidly learn unfamiliar technical subject, and synthesize diverse sources into robust, decision‑ready conclusions.
  • Experience in global health, public health, healthcare, international development, or a related field, with strong understanding of health systems in low‑and middle‑income countries and the African context. Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with in‑country stakeholders, with the ability to build trusted working relationships, understand local implementation realities, and adapt analytical approaches and recommendations to local context.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analyses into clear, concise, decision‑oriented recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, multicultural, and geographically dispersed environment, with resourcefulness, intellectual curiosity, humility, and strong ownership; willingness to travel internationally, including within Africa.
  • Willingness to travel (estimated 30-35%).
Advantages
  • Experience with diagnostics, laboratory systems, or other health technologies — including working directly with manufacturers, distributors, procurement agencies, or laboratories — and familiarity with the access and market challenges they face in low‑and middle‑income countries.
  • Experience in procurement, supply chain, strategic purchasing, supplier analysis, market shaping, pricing, or health commodity markets.
  • Educational or professional background in biology, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, biotechnology, laboratory sciences, or a related life‑science discipline.
  • Experience using AI or machine‑learning tools to support research, data analysis, automation or synthesis.
