Qualifications

• Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar.
• Five to ten years of civil litigation experience.
• Significant experience taking and defending depositions.
• Advanced experience with discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation.
• Ability to independently manage complex cases and sophisticated client relationships.
• Strong legal writing, advocacy, negotiation and strategic analysis skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume caseload without sacrificing work quality.
• Leadership skills and the ability to mentor less-experienced attorneys.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage complex insurance-related civil litigation matters from intake through resolution or trial.
• Represent insurance carriers in liability defense and insurance subrogation actions.
• Evaluate liability, damages, coverage considerations, and recovery strategies.
• Develop and execute case strategies aligned with client objectives.
• Draft and argue substantive motions.
• Lead written discovery, take and defend depositions, and retain appropriate experts.
• Handle hearings, mediations, settlement conferences and other proceedings.
• Direct all phases of trial preparation and serve as lead or supporting trial counsel.
• Advise carrier clients regarding exposure, strategy, settlement value and litigation risk.
• Negotiate settlements and drive cases toward efficient, favorable outcomes.
• Supervise and mentor junior associates, paralegals and litigation support professionals.
• Manage a substantial caseload while maintaining quality, responsiveness and deadline compliance.
• Maintain accurate case records and billable time in ProLaw.
• Participate in seminars, client education, professional speaking engagements, and business development.
