Job Description
The Accounting Methods group helps companies optimize their federal tax accounting methods, including revenue and expense recognition, capitalization, depreciation, and amortization, and various other special methods of accounting. Accounting Methods is part of BDO’s Specialized Tax Services business, composed of practices designed to help companies comply with specific areas of federal, state, and international tax law.
As a Tax Senior, Accounting Methods, you will help both public and private companies identify federal tax benefits and correct federal tax exposures. You will collaborate with clients and internal teams across tax, accounting, finance, operations, software, manufacturing, and supply chain departments.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain long‑term, mutually beneficial client relationships.
- Prepare and review accounting method changes, including section 481(a) computations.
- Identify research needs, frame issues, and report analysis clearly and concisely.
- Provide premier‑quality services leveraging and/or improving business practices and technologies.
- Organize workpapers to minimize revisions and ensure tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
- Ensure due dates are met proactively.
- Research potential new clients and assess their tax positions.
- Operate online research tools to gather pertinent tax, legal, industry, and other information.
- Monitor relevant tax laws and educate yourself on tax strategies to build tax knowledge.
- Plan and execute project processes, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
- Maintain high technical skills in accounting methods by staying current on recent guidance.
- Assist with developing tools/templates to aid core tax services and accounting method projects.
- Comply with industry standards and the policies outlined in the BDO Tax Quality Manual.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Train and mentor Accounting Methods interns, associates, and potentially other senior associates.
Education
Bachelor’s degree, required.
Experience
- Two (2) or more years of prior experience in accounting, tax, or finance (including internships), required.
- Prior experience in tax consulting roles (e.g., accounting methods, 263A, FDII), preferred.
- Experience preparing/reviewing tax provisions, corporate taxation, consolidations, and partnerships, preferred.
License/Certifications
- Currently holds or working towards Certified Public Accountant license, Enrolled Agent certification, or Juris Doctorate degree (or equivalent), required.
Software
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word, preferred.

Compensation
National Range: $73,500 - $131,250
Maryland Range: $73,500 - $131,250
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $73,500 - $131,250
Washington DC Range: $73,500 - $131,250
