Job description

Hazen and Sawyer is seeking an Asset Management Project Manager for our San Francisco, Concord, and Sacramento offices. As part of our growing West Region Asset Management team for water/wastewater infrastructure projects, you will work with some of the most challenging, complex and advanced asset management projects in the field. You will build trusted advisor relationships, deliver high-quality work, define and deliver technical and technology solutions that align with our clients expectations.

And support our mission to help communities protect public health and environment.

In this pivotal role, you will set strategy, capture new work, and lead multi-disciplinary teams delivering programs aligned with ISO 55000 principles, AWWA utility management/AM standards, Institute of Asset Management (IAM), and US EPA best practices.

This individual will perform and manage asset management consulting services across a wide range of assets in the water and wastewater industry, leveraging a data‑driven approach to planning and budgeting for rehabilitation and renewal of assets, and assist with strategic business development. This individual will also be expected to identify opportunities to apply many of the analytical skills used in asset management to internally assist engineering staff on planning and design projects.

Why Hazen And Sawyer
  • Founded in 1951 by the son of Allen Hazen (developer of the Hazen‑Williams equation), we are an employee‑owned company with a singular focus on “all things water.”
  • Our work includes planning, design, and oversight of construction of environmental infrastructure – for water, wastewater, and stormwater management.
  • We foster a work environment low on bureaucracy and high in creativity, connectedness, innovation, and value.
  • We recruit talented professionals, provide them with challenging, interesting, and creative assignments, and empower them with the tools they need to succeed.
  • We currently have over 2,400 employees in 90+ offices throughout the United States, Latin America, Canada, and the U.K.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own projects end‑to‑end: Lead asset management projects as Task Lead or Project Manager; driving scope, schedule, budget, and quality while coordinating multi‑disciplinary teams and subconsultants to deliver results clients trust.
  • Shape strategy, win work: Drive business development from pursuit strategy through proposal close; leading Northern California opportunities while contributing to regional and national efforts across the firm.
  • Define the technical roadmap: Set the technical direction for complex AM programs; from data analysis and risk/lifecycle modeling to delivering clear, actionable recommendations that move clients forward.
  • Advance cutting‑edge technology: Guide clients through CMMS/EAM selection and implementation (Maximo, Infor, SAP PM, Cityworks) and build the BI dashboards and data tools that turn asset data into decisions.
  • Be a voice in the industry: Represent Hazen at AWWA, WEF, IAM and other relevant professional organizations, authoring thought leadership that puts Hazen and you at the forefront of water/wastewater asset management.
  • Develop the next generation: Mentor and invest in junior staff, helping them build technical depth and grow their careers in water/wastewater asset management.
Required Qualifications
  • Education & credentials: BS in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial/Systems Engineering (or related field); PE license required.
  • Deep AM experience: 15+ years of experience, with proven success implementing risk, levels of service, and lifecycle frameworks that translate into prioritized capital and O&M plans for water/wastewater utilities.
  • Project & client leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage complex consulting projects (scope, schedule, budget) and build trusted relationships with clients; including facilitating utility leadership teams spanning operations, engineering, and finance.
  • Business development chops: Track record leading pursuits and proposals; from client positioning and teaming strategies to scope/fee development; across regional and national efforts.
  • Technical & analytical horsepower: Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; proficiency with Microsoft 365 and data tools (Excel, Access); experience with Power BI, similar BI platforms or GIS is a strong plus.
  • Communication & collaboration: Exceptional communicator; equally effective presenting to a utility board, writing technical reports, and mentoring a junior analyst.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Institute of Asset Management (IAM) Certificate
  • Master’s degree in engineering, asset management, data analytics, or public administration.
  • Experience in developing digital solutions or dashboards using Microsoft Power BI, Esri ArcGIS or other platforms.
